Raiders Of the Lost Ark.
Best cavalry scene: LOTR: Return of the King
Best “roll end credits” scene: Buckaroo Banzai
Best chase scene with VERY tight pants: Matrix Reloaded
Brian
You misspelled “Legend”.
Best extended delay before running the opening credits: Raising Arizona
Best bully-gets-what-he-deserves scene: A History of Violence. When I saw this film in the theater, the audience went nuts when the kid finally beat the shit out of the bully who harassed him at school. People were cheering and applauding. It was amazing to witness such an emotional reaction from the crowd. (It’s a testament to Cronenberg’s skill as a director, I think.)
Best western gunfight scene: Ha! Too many to choose from. I’ll nominate Silverado.
Best automobiles stranded on an iceberg scene: The Great Race.
Best henchmen job interview: Blazing Saddles
Best superhero job interview: Mystery Men
Best scene of the White House getting destroyed: 2012.
I know, I know - ID4 is more recognizable and has the iconic image thing going from the commercials. And 2012 sucks in a way the more enjoyable (but still silly) ID4 doesn’t.
But the WH in 2012 wasn’t just destroyed by a big wave or a meteor strike or terrorists or invading aliens - it was hit by an aircraft carrier.
I salute any man with balls big enough to put such a preposterous shot in their movie.
Best scene to show the dangers of drug use (there are so many): James Woods going face-down in a mountain of cocaine in The Boost.
Best scene to show the pleasures of drug use (there are so few): John Travolta shooting up in Pulp Fiction.
Best meltdown scene: a tie between Al Pacino in the courtroom in* …And Justice for All*, and Julianne Moore in the drugstore in Magnolia.
I think this one goes to Star Wars
Here’s one that may spur some argument…
Best Dance Scene: “Make 'Em Laugh” from Singin’ in the Rain
Best use of a lawnmower: Peter Jackson’s Dead Alive (aka Braindead)
Well, Bonnie and Clyde might be a possible rival. But that was 2 people getting shot up.
Change it to “title sequence,” then.
Best chase scene, western division - Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
Best murdering someone with an axe scene - American Psycho
Best campfire scene - Blazing Saddles
Best courtroom confrontation scene - A Few Good Men (Honorable mention goes to Nuts)
I’m fond of the one from Cold Comfort Farm. “Well, I’ll tell ye, there’ll be no butter in hell!”
That should be an Oscar category.
Best corrupt government official: Claude Rains in “Casablanca”
Best car racing scene: The Italian Grand Prix using the banking at Monza in “Grand Prix”
Best career advice: Seymour Love in “Opening of Misty Beethoven” quoting Hyman Mandel
Never let the fact that they are doing it wrong keep you from doing it right".
It probably is an AVN awards category.
