The sound of a furnace, the blowing of warm air through the vents in Winter.
Oh. Well, here you go.
In general, the dawn chorus and sound of the ocean hitting the beach at night are my favorites.
In specific, the sound of my half-feral cat, Nijel the Destroyer, announcing his presence after being missing for almost two months, waking me out of a sound sleep at three in the morning. That was a year ago, and even now I get a sort of happy echo when he wakes me up to be fed at odd hours.
A shrieking baby is INDEED not only physically uncomfortable, but emotionally worrisome and draining. They are little gurgling contradictions…They smell good AND bad. They’re cute AND goofy-looking.
My shears cutting through new fabric – aka the promise of a exciting new project.
As someone who has been deaf due to medical problems more than once in his life, I love nearly every sound I hear. There is music in the rush of traffic, the chirps or birds, and in the sound of the AC running. I like hearing people talking, radios blaring, machinery in use, even the sound of running water is amazing.
Pachinko parlors, pinball arcades, emergency vehicle sirens, the sound of elevator doors opening with that little “ding!” accompaniment… All are wonderful to hear.
Oh, but rain… rain is truly remarkable. I’m from Florida. I now live in the desert. I miss the daily rains Florida has, and when it rains here, even in the middle of the night, I’ll get up, go outside, and sit on my porch and watch and listen and smell the rain.
The nicker of greeting from a friendly horse, that throaty huh-huh-huh sound.
The purr of a kitten or cat.
When my Papillon puppy is overcome by happiness (like when she sees dinner coming) she’ll throw back her head like the world’s tiniest wolf getting ready to howl, but instead what comes out is this little trilling “wrrrr-wrRRRR”…just the cutest sound in the universe!
I agree about the squeak of leather, too.
A quiet night filled with frogs & crickets.
Thunder. Belly laughs. The SO having an orgasm.
Nothing quite makes me tingle like the sound of a lightsaber firing up.
Keerap, I actually had to physically put my hand over my mouth to keep from laughing too loudly at that.
Yes, we have a young child. Why do you ask?
In chemistry class in high school, there was this old vacuum pump that made the best noise ever. Everyone in the class instantly had a huge grin the second it was turned on.
It made the most cheerful “BOINK BOINK BOINK” sound, like a robot or computer might make in a 50’s SF movie. Or possibly a sound effect in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The sound of a cork coming out of a nice bottle of bourbon. It makes such a satisfying sound, when sitting around the campfire, and anticipating the warming liquor’s flavors.
I always make sure to put the cork back in between drinks.
A light rain outside of my window as I try to sleep.
The sound of a baseball hitting a mitt.
Making a girl I really like/love give nice, hard, genuine laugh
The guitar player chunking out the one-fingered A-chord while checking his overdriven tube amp while the drummer takes a run across his kit and the bass player plays his favorite riff on the low notes of his five-string, just before the sticks clack out 1-2-3-4 and everything comes together in a song you all wrote together.
This girl I fancy’s voice.
My mum used to call the noise of can of soda-pop makes when opened “The call of the wild” because I’d show up and ask for some, like a cat responding to a can opener noise.
I like the sound of rain, wine corks popping and the gentle ping-ping-ping of the microwave when my sweetie makes chai for me in the morning.
The sound of kids playing in a sun-splashed playground. I enjoy sitting on a parkbench with my eyes closed, taking in the sun, and listening to the sounds of happy kids.
That little gasp a woman makes at the moment of penetration.
Hey, you asked.
Nice description.
Ooooh! You reminded me of another one of my favorites: the sound of an entire symphony orchestra tuning up at once. First that one lone “A” plays out, and then … ahhh. All those bleats and hoots. Love it!
The snaps, crackles, and pops of a fire on a cold winter’s night;
The sound of cowbells – but only when actually attached to cows, grazing;
Distant church bells;
The call of the Whippoorwill;
A screaming GXXR
Oh, and ditto on the powdery fresh snow, low-altitude pass of a fighter jet, and gurgling water in a mountain stream, per up posts.
