sounds you enjoy the most

going off of the smells thread, what weird sounds do you enjoy the most in life…i for one hate birds making noise, damn them

but the one sound that makes me happiest of all is horse hooves (hoofs?) clopping on asphalt…i need to get out and record this and make a cd so i can listen to it all day…

anyone else?

It’s hooves, and I agree wholeheartedly. It’s like going right back to a Dicken’s era Christmas with that sound. ::sigh::

I enjoy a Scottish accent immensely. I want a tape of Billy Boyd reading Shakespeare. That would so make my life worthwhile.

I really like Alan Rickman’s voice, and Kenneth Branagh’s as well.

I like the sound of a guinea pig purring. My pig Molly purrs when i give her food she really enjoys, i.e. watermelon. It is so cute

Anything going into hot oil…TTTSSHHHHHhhhhhhhhh

Throwing a small stone as high in the air as I can, then hearing it hit the water. It makes a indescribable sound that send me into ecstacy.

A very lush, well done synthesizer string chorus with a heavily phase-shifted oscillator.

Vlad/Igor

As for sounds, smells (except for the weird ones I posted in the weird smells thread), and sensations, I’d have to say my favorites all occur when I’m alone in the afternoon, late spring to early fall, in a huge, wild forest, preferably in southern Ohio.

Soft rustling of branches in the wind, birds calling, water rushing somewhere far away, and the absolutely gorgeous acoustics that only occur in the midst of millions of tall trees…

My cats purring is #1.

I also love the sound of a babbling stream. So peaceful…

You know the sound that snow makes when it’s falling and it hits the snow already on the ground? Kind of a very quiet, crystalline sound? It’s the only thing I like about snow (besides snow days).

Cats purring, thunderstorms, wind whistling, and girls I’m infatuated with laughing.

A machine (car, blender, PC, etc) finally running after hours of sweaty labor.

SO “play sniffing” near my ear. Or snoring softly near the back of my neck.

Light wind thru a couple aspens in the high desert on a late summer morning when the nights are becoming cool.

That and the rising cord of “The Simpsons” opening.

My kids’ laughter.
A really good thunderstorm.
My sweetie’s voice.
crickets.

Hearing the excited giggle/laugh of my daughter when she’s just so darn happy, I love the sound of my SO’s voice, in the flesh and on the phone… very sexy. Of course, the sound of raindrops on the window pane and a gurgling stream but hearing the ocean thrills me. Accents such as Scottish, Irish, English, and Aussie (I’m falling in love with the Wiggles guy who sings “Thumbkin” on my kiddo’s CD - is that wrong?) and pan flute music (anything Celtic sounding). I also just love the fiddle part of “Baba O’Reilly”, WOW… it just gets to me! That is just amazing to me. And add to this list the strings and melody of “Kashmir” (sp?). Actually, I get really emotional for music that can give me goosebumps and that is a big list so I’ll refrain from posting it all. I’m sure you know what I’m talking about anyway.

I’m not a big soda drinker, so whenever I drink something out of a can I savor the sound that it makes as you open it. It’s just a sound that means refreshment.

Too many to count…

My SO’s voice, first and foremost
Leaves rustling
Waves breaking
Raining
Birds chirping
Wind blowing through a forest
River gushing

etc.

When either of our Pugs is snoring as I go to bed. Annoying to most, but gives me a contented feeling.

The sound of a train going by, a couple of miles away, at night. It just says to me that all is right in the world.

OK, I guess I have to be the one.

I love the sound of a good fart!

No, really.

I mean, even on a bad day, you’re pissed off, you’re annoyed, you can’t wait to get home. And then, out of the blue - you hear someone really tear one off.

It HAS to bring a smile to your face. It does mine anyway.

Oh yea, the sounding of two people humping. Nothing perks my ears more!

Another vote for running water: streams, rain on windows, thunderstorms (not too close) the sea.

And the floppy drive buzzing PCs used to make when booting up. I guess it takes me back to my early IT days  New PCs don’t make that noise anymore since they’re nearly always booting straight from the hard drive and don’t do that floppy-search.

[li] Cats purring. Anyone who doesn’t appreciate this sound isn’t human as far as I’m concerned. I also enjoy a friendly meow as well.[/li][li] Thunder claps[/li][li] Burning wood crackling[/li][li] Water running over rocks in a river, brook, etc.[/li][li] Crickets[/li][li] A train in the distance, especially on a cold night.[/li][li] The sound of train wheels rolling across the tracks as the train goes by.[/li][li] Rain on a window or car windshield, or under a tin roof.[/li][li] The sound of the scissors snipping when I get my hair cut. I’ve always liked this sound ever since I was a child.[/li][/ul]

My cat snoring.
A waterfall. A big one.
My bass.
A race car.
