The Big Bang Theory, February 21 2013 -- "The Monster Isolation"

I am starting this thread in anticipation of tonight’s episode!

Are we looking at the start of Racy? I hope so.

Decent episode this week. Loved the “Fun with Flags” bit this week. Sheldon’s got a knack for physical comedy. Also liked Penny’s mini-arc this week. That is not the scene I would have chosen from Streetcar, but it worked.

So where does Raj pick for his date?

I was starting to feel really bad for Raj. I hope it works out with this girl.

And I feel for Sheldon too. The title of that play definitely leads one to believe that there will be more about streetcars.

This episode reinforces my opinion that Sheldon secretly loves Penny.

I think this is true, and they are the couple that should end up together. I can’t recall anything in the storyline that would indicate Penny actually cares about Leonard, but it’s clear that she does care about Sheldon, and he cares about her. He certainly treats her much better than he treats Amy.

Interesting episode. I like the fact that they’ve brought the focus back to the downside of social awkwardness. It’s such a central theme of the show that I think it gives the impression that everyone like that has their little coterie of friends that they can fall back on when often that’s not the case. I’ll be interested to see what kind of backstory they have for this new character.

They did the same joke on Home Improvement…and I can’t believe I found it that easily.

Well, Raj’s possible new relationship could be the start of something big for him. I’m wondering if it will crash and burn fairly quickly, though.

I hope not. It has nothing to do with how I feel about the character, but just the fact that Raj’s lovelife is the most boring aspect of the show, thus I hope they’ll do something with it and just leave it alone.

I’d love the character to have a girlfriend. It just seems reasonable, now that the other guys – even Sheldon – are paired up. Now, maybe Stuart can be the “sad sack” odd-man-out of the group.

The Sheldon-Penny bits were the best. “Spread your legs and welcome them in”. Loved Sheldon’s inability to converse without going through the knocking ritual.

Raj in his underwear wasn’t a good visual. Seriously, you’ve got Penny and Bernadette and the semi-nude scene goes to Raj?

They’ve hit a run of mediocrity in the past few shows. Last week, everybody was a dick except maybe Amy, this week just didn’t seem to have the chemistry that we’re used to seeing.

I’d actually rather see Stuart receive a break than Raj. At least the others have their degrees and careers; poor Stuart is living in borderline poverty for running the business he loves.

Though a Stuart-Raj-New Girl love triangle might have potential, with each member neurotically resenting the time the other two spend together.

I think she will be a great addition to the show. I love her in every thing she has done.

“Sheldon-Penny” interactions have tended to be my favorite scenes throughout the series. The characters play off against each other so well!

Like janis, I’ve thought that Sheldon and Penny would make a great couple. She seems to be the only one who can yank a knot in his tail and she seems to have genuine affection for him, even tho he can be a jerk.

So let’s get them together, and maybe Amy and Stuart can find something that works for them. Of course, that leaves whiny Leonard…

Hey, Sheldon’s sexy assistant (can’t remember her name right now) likes Leonard, so that solves the problem, I think…

Actually, FCM, I’ve always thought that Amy should end up with Leonard. They both crave affection & I think they would be a good match. Actually, it could solve some of Leonard’s Mommy issues. Amy is a lot like his mother, only she would love him. Plus, the actors don’t seem to have a bad chemistry. Long live the Lamy, I say! (Sadly, I have no solution for Stewart, I’m not sure Sheldon’s assistant would go for him)

I was surprised they were having her do it without any kind of accent. While southern accents are often done poorly or over the top, Blanche Dubois (because she exists behind such a facade anyway) is one character for whom an over-the-top poorly done southern accent can work.

Let Leonard hook up with Stuart. It would serve him right, the whiney little asshole.
