She could be reacting more to Alfred going for a right-wing religious bumpkin than to him simply being attracted to another woman: *“You mean to tell me you **want **to have coitus with that?!? Have you taken **total **leave of your senses?!?” *
He’s both meth-producing, dealing and using. And his harmless nature could be a result of the new teeth his mom bought him. Though I admit he doesn’t seem like someone fresh out of incarceration.
I’ve been with this show since episode 1. I’m the guy who sighs and rolls his eyes when someone designates an episode as the worst ever or proclaims the series has become unwatchable (yet they somehow summon the will to continue watching).
That said, this episode was the worst ever. And the series is becoming unwatchable.
I don’t think I even cracked a smile.
mmm
Very poorly written (and sometimes acted) episode for the most part.
The scene’s with Penny’s family were particularly horrible. Agree with the miscasting thing. But it was also badly written. Those scenes just died.
Incredible cast bloat. Just way to many people to form a coherent story line. And when they were all together (plus Stuart) at the “wedding” it all failed. Just some random lines thrown together.
One consequence is that Dean Norris barely had any screen time. We will see more of him, though. Hopefully in a less crowded episode.
Basically the scenes of Raj, Howard and Bernadette in the kitchen were the best part and those barely elicited a chuckle.
I’m not remotely a regular viewer but I figured I’d see where the show is at so I watched last years finale and this one. Agree with most it didn’t have a lot of laughs.
But I really wanted to say: Penny’s family’s parts smelled like a backdoor pilot. Not a good one but still. Am I alone here?
I’d advise trying more later as this episode was pretty dismal. This is coming from a real BBT booster. I knew even before it aired it was going to be stretched far too thin with way too many characters. Reading the showrunners description saying it would be also be “touching” was a giveaway.
P.S. I still roll my eyes at people who just have to come into BBT threads to say they’re through with the series. Really, just be through with it. Eventually there will be threads to ask what shows are you through with and you can post there about how you just cannot watch BBT anymore. Mind you, I’m not talking about people who criticize an episode-- Lord knows this one needed it-- just those who must post about how they’re giving up. One more bad episode and THAT’S IT! Or, not watching another one ever again. Yet here they come in the thread, shitting and stating they’re never watching another, one more and that’s it, shark jumped 3 seasons ago. . . yada, yada, yada. Give it a break, folks.
I assume it’s a contractual thing that every actor has to be in every episode and that’s why they’ll have 2 or 3 stories running simultaneously. Too much going on to do a good job with any of it, as far as I’m concerned. And I was disappointed with Penny’s family. Wyatt seemed to lose all his personality, and her mother and brother added pretty much nothing.
I’d love to see more develop between Mary and Alfred - much comedic potential there.
I’ll keep watching, more out of habit than anything. It’s not the worst program on TV…
I may have overlooked it, but I don’t think any of this was said in this thread.
(or perhaps you’re referring to previous BBT threads?)
mmm
I am totally sure you have no idea what I’m talking about.
Not them, because that would be cookie cutter, but I’d love to see Mary and Alfred in a spin off.
I might give that a watch, myself!
Nope. Looked again. Still not seeing it.
Anyway, Sheldon’s mother is the only relative I care to see again. Penny’s entire family is a caricature and not worthy of the series. Even Leonard’s parents - while I like Judd Hirsch - are too over-the-top and unfunny.
I did come up with something I liked about this episode, though: Bernie’s screechy Angry Voice always amuses.
mmm
Why was Bernie officiating? I mean, it was a good thing, because she was the only one who could shut down the side conversations so easily, but was that ever explained?
I wasn’t saying it would be a good idea, just the amount of shared screen time felt like they were trying to set that up.
There were a couple of laughs, but Penny’s brother should have been by an actor capable of a bit more skeevyness.
Modern Family, the new show, and Blackish were all more entertaining this week.
All this.
Sagal does look good, but her face isn’t very expressive. I never watched “Married with Children”; was she like that then?
I thought it had some of the best zingers, like saying that Leonard’s dad was just like him only with a bigger prostate. The “your genitals are a joy to behold” line was classic Sheldon.
She looks exactly like a somewhat older version of how she looked on 8 Simple Rules, where she played Kaley Cuoco’s mother. See a cast photo here.
Sagal needed to get that big MwC wig out of storage.
In the finale of last season, when they making preparations, Bernadette asked Penny, “Who’s going to perform the ceremony?” Penny replied, “I was kind of hoping you would.”
I didn’t say it was a good explanation.
