I started PC gaming in a significant way around 2000 and I still have a nostalgia for the big boxes, fat manuals and other assorted goodies of that era. I still have the great Alpha Centauri box and manual somewhere.
For those you with fond memories of those years you might like the Big Box Collectionwhich has 3d scans of PC game boxes. Many of them seem to be in German but for the most part the art work is familiar.
I remember getting two of the LucasArts archives, one Star Wars with TIE Fighter and other lesser games, the other full of point and click games like Sam and Max and Day of the Tentacle. They had flip open covers so you could peep at the games inside without opening the box, terrible to a kid waiting till Christmas or a birthday to open them.
The Doom collection was the most ridiculous offender though, a box the size of a small cereal packet, that contained 3 or 4 CDs in paper slips and a few pages of FAQs and legal disclaimers.
