The birdies have figured out where I keep the stash.

I have a little sitting room, more or less accurately represented in 3D Studio here.

I keep a little dish on the windowsill, which I periodically fill with hempseed to attract birds. (I don’t have cable TV, and it’s cheep entertainment, har har.)

I keep the seed in an open bucket on the table. A few minutes ago, I heard an unusual amount of noise coming from in there, and went and stood in the doorway. There were about a dozen of the little critters, (finches of some sort, I think, my ornithological knowledge is pretty limited,) and they were right into the bucket of seed. Seed and shells all over the table and the floor. They’d come right in through the window, which is only open a few inches, and were going to town.

What was weird was how quickly they all left by the same route, seeming to take turns hopping to the sill and then out. Every time I’ve had a bird in the house before, they were panicked and it was a chore to get a single one out an open door, much less an orderly procession through a tiny opening. Some birds must be smarter than others.

Anyway, I guess I’ll get a lid for that or something. Ingrates, not having the decency to wait until I’m around to be amused by them to eat my damn seeds.

Nah, not smarter… just a heck of a lot more mellow. Hemp seed, ya know!

Yeah, for critters with brains the size of BBs they’re quick learners.

We have a lot of Great Tailed Grackles here. They figured out how to get inside my screened patio to get to the dog’s food. The chunks are too hard for them to eat, so they figured out soaking it in the dog’s water bowl for a while would soften it enough so they could eat it. Smart assed birds!
