the BOOT

OK, this week I was listening to a radio talk show. “the boot” came up as a topic of conversation

Now, someone called in and said that he was 100% sure that this trick would work. He said if you get booted, all you need to do is completely deflate your tire, and then put your car in reverse, and the boot would come off. This sounded like a load to me, but I really don’t know that much about how a boot is attached to know if it would work or not. Anybody know?
Note to Manny: I hope that you don’t feel that this thread falls under the “Tell me how to break the law” umbrella. I am genuinely curious as to if this might work, and why.

Sorry for blank quoted post above.

Re topic…even if this was possible I imagine this would possibly tear the hell of your rim or the surface of the deflated tire. Unless you’re running from the police or a maddened herd of elephants I can’t imagine it would be a good thing for the tire or rim.

All of the boots I’ve come up against work primarily by locking around the suspension components behind the wheel, and then covering the lug-nuts on the wheel so that it cannot be removed. So deflating the tire would still leave you with a non-removable wheel and a locked suspension. I’d love to hear someone tell me I’m wrong, though. I hate those things.
