Oh my gosh everybody, the Boston Brass performed at my high school yesterday and it was the most amazing thing that I have ever seen. Each and every one of them is so amazing. For five people, they are amazingly awesome. During the school day, they came in and gave a little mini performance, and then had a little master class where we went with the person who played our instrument and got to talk with them and get tips on playing. I play the French Horn, and to me JD Shaw was like God.
Then, to top it off, they played in an evening concert with our Wind Ensemble, and blew us all away again. I had never seen an international caliber chamber group, and my jaw was practically on the floor. And, not only are they incredibly skilled, they’re also hilarious. They add little funny things like having the lead trumpet trill and everybody take a huge breath as if getting ready to play, and then groaning as the lead continues on, and then the lead trumpet looks like he’s going to fall over because he needs to breath, so he passes off to the other trumpet and then comes back in again, and then finally they continue. You have to be their to get the real effect. And I just love the matching purple jackets.
Afterward, I got my program signed by all of them and bought two of their CDs. I even talked to Ed (the trombonist) a little. I had the most awesome time of my life. Has anybody else ever seen the Boston Brass perform? What is your opinion of them?
