The Brag-On-Your-Kids Thread

Got great kids in your life? Your own kids, someone else’s kids? Grown kids or infants? Doesn’t matter. Share their wonderfulness here. I’ll start:

My daughter got home from preschool just a few minutes after I got home from work today. She was holding a piece of paper in her hand, and my husband was telling her to “Go show Mommy what you did in school today!” So, she runs over to me, and hands me this page on which she had written, in her own hand, the letter “A” several times. She’s three years old, and while she’s good at recognizing letters, she’s necer tried to actually write anything. They’re really good, too! She got a happy face sticker from her teacher, too!

My son has discovered that baby gates are moveable. Much to my displeasure, but it is cute. My daughter, is discovering that she can make ear-piercing, air-raid siren level squeals. Rick learned to count to two.

My nephew turned three on the first of this month. Since before he was two, he’s been recognizing letters and numbers, he’s been counting and reciting the alphabet. He calls the alphabet “the alphabet” not his ABCs. He has an incredible memory. He “reads” books to me all the time, based on what he’s remembered. He can tie his own shoes. Not very tightly, but he can tie them. He knows his telephone number, his address, how to spell his name. He can’t print his name yet, but he’s working on it. He’s such a cutie, too. Okay, enough gushing.

My daughter loves to draw me pictures, and is a wonderful artist. As I mentioned in a earlier brag, she gives me kisses and hugs without me having to ask for them. She is a blessing, as we lost a child right before her, and she is the joy of my life.
My middle son is a very intelligent boy, straight A student, wish he got that from me! He is a sweetheart.
I am so proud of my boy.

My oldest son has a heart of gold. Though onrey at times, he is a wonderful son, and worth every second of my 47 hour labor to bring him into the world

Time for a grown child brag.
My son, who turns 20 on the 17th, is in Naval training in Pensacola, FL. I can’t believe he got through boot camp without so much as a single complaint to Mom. He has volunteered for Bahrain. I have a great respect for the military (and LOVE a man in uniform!) and am SOOO proud of what he is doing with his life.

My daughter got a statewide award, presented to her in a big ceremony by our Lt Gov and an ex-Miss America.

Two hundred other kids got it that day, too, but it was cool anyway.

When I went up to take her picture Ms A said, “Is that your father?” I choose to place the emphasis and tone in the right places so she sounds interested instead of frightened or disgusted or just making conversation.

I just know some of you are retching at the mere thought of this thread. Well, there’s the door! You’re officially excused from this thread.

My son is a late walker (nothing a brag about there) but the reason is that he scootches. He moves on his rump by hitching himself forward with his legs. It’s really amazing to see and he literally stops traffic (okay, foot traffic) when he does this in public places like airports or hotel lobbies. Other kids do this, too, but it’s not too common. I love that he has ths unique, semi-freaky thing about him. He’s too young (and too average in developmental areas) for me to brag about anything else.

My dude, who just started 4th grade, was recently tested and scored a 141 on the IQ test. His verbal abilities are at the 10th grade level.

Now if I can only get him to write legibly.

Ooh, ooh, is it REALLY all right to brag in here?

My 11 year old (who is also beautiful and generous and kind for the most part) scored in the 99th percentile for the nation in her 4th grade tests. She also won a badge for Math Olympiad - she got more questions right than any other student in the history of her school. And her Destination Imagination team went to World Finals last year.

The 7 year old (beautiful and generous and kind as well), who’s just started second grade, is reading at a third grade, second semester level and her teacher tells me she’d like to have her tested for gifted this year. AND she picked up all her toys from the living room last night just because she knew I was in a bad mood.

Our puppy is cute and smart too - or is that going too far?

Last night, I got my daughter to write her name! Woohoo!

I wrote the letters for her first, and then she wrote them again. I didn’t tell her what the letters spelled out, though. After she wrote them, I asked her if she knew what it spelled. She did!

Then, I took the little piece of paper with her writing on it to work with me today, and showed it to everyone. They all oohed & aahed appropriately.

My daughters are in eighth grade, and second year of swimteam.

This weekend, one of my daughters was placed against high school Juniors, and held her own nicely!

Today I had to take my 13 year old son to the dentist. Since I was unable to find a babysitter, I ended up bringing my four year old son along. The last time I took the little one to the dentist, he ran around like a maniac. However, today he behaved perfectly. I was shocked, needless to say.

I know it doesn’t compare to some of the things others are posting, but, believe me, him sitting quietly for an hour is quite an accomplishment in itself.

My twelve year old daughter recently passed her grade one piano exam, after only two years of lessons. She can read music, and is starting to play some things by ear.

Also, she started at a new school yesterday, seventh grade, and in spite of being incredibly nervous about it, she had a really good day. That one I am very happy for her about, achievement or not.

Yay for everyone’s kids!

My eleven month old crawls like a red-butted baboon. Her feet are planted flat on the floor and her rear end is straight up in the air. It’s TOO cute.
She also started walking two weeks ago and had four teeth. She’s consistantly above average on height & weight charts
AND she’s the cutest child on the planet (other that yours). I’m positive that growing, cutting teeth and becoming mobile are a direct reflection of my great Mom-ness!

I love this stuff! I love it!

But I can’t believe I forgot to mention my son. Duh. In three weeks, he’ll be a year old. He wants to walk sooooo bad. He’s great a cruising on the furniture, and over the last couple of days, he’s been getting braver. He’s let go of stuff and stood alone for a split second or two. He’s trying to talk, too. He can’t say much more than “mama” & “dada,” but he’s jabbering a lot, and when he does, you know he’s saying something important.

Mamapotomus: Of course it’s because you’re a great mom! Why else?

I want children of my own. :frowning:

Silver Fire: Wanna borrow mine?

As much as I enjoy bragging on the Little Goddess and BabyGuy, I’ll be the first one to tell you that they aren’t perfect little angels…

My foster sister is a living doll. She is almost 5 and she is SOOOO cute and SOOOO smart…I’ll have to get specifics about what she’s doing now from Mom and post them. She didn’t get to start kindergarten, because she won’t be 5 until January, but she is ready, believe me!

(On a slight hijack, I want my mom to legally adopt this kid, so if anything ever happens to her and my step-dad, they can leave a will specifying that I get to finish raising her. I absolutely adore this kid and am horrified at the idea of her being turned back to the state.)

I also have a very sweet niece who is 11 1/2. She is repeating 5th grade, but I don’t know why. She is very smart. Probably just like her dad, bored by classes and goofs off and plays and stuff.

Okay, I guess strangers can do that for me.
Many times when we go out, my son jsut talks and talks and people on the bus and in the stores are like, Your son is so smart!
I always thank them, and tell them he gets it from his mother (j/k).

Well my daughter just started first grade at the public school after three years of Montessori schooling. She has had three math tests so far and is batting 1000!!! She also was the only kid in class to volunteer to read aloud and she read an entire Dr. Seuss book!
She got the reading from me ( I was reading to the kindergarteners in the hall when I was 4), and the math from my ex, I have to assume since I suck, but she’s no better.
