The Breeders appreciation thread

I love this song:

Yes I love that song too, and while I was only six years old during that year, the video and sounds and fashion scream 1993.

Nice post!

I fuckin’ love this song. A bullshit little I-IV change (two chords, like an A to a D or a G to a C) that totally rocks. Go Deal twins.

Always loved them. I’ve worn out several copies of Pod, and the show I saw them at on that tour was one of the top 5 shows I’ve seen. Wonderful, raw sound coupled with good, quirky song writing.
Metal Man is one of my favorite songs off of it.

I love The Amps as well…Kim Deal is awesome.

Oh, great - now I have to pull out all my old Breeders and Pixies CDs and listen to them again. Love Kim Deal :).

I saw them at Lollapalooza in Dallas in '94. Lots of fun at that concert. We were in the grassy part of the amphitheater and I remember while The Breeders were on stage playing Cannonball, some kids had piled up some cardboard and lit it on fire and a bunch of us started a sort of mosh-circle, running around it and leaping over the fire. Things got really crazy later on.

I like the album “Pacer” by Kim Deal’s subsequent band The Amps.

Pod is a really good album. I still listen to it pretty often.

Now why didn’t someone mention them before?

Anyway, The Amps a temporary band, not a subsequent one. The Breeders later came back with Title TK, which has one of my favorite songs, “Huffer”. If anyone likes the Breeders but is unfamiliar with it, they should give it a listen:

I got to chat with Dave Lovering (the Pixies’ drummer) for a few minutes after their opening reunion show at the Fine Line in 2004 and we talked a bit about their rehearsals in preparation for the tour in the months prior. I asked him if, in a random moment of silence when they were trying to think of another song to add to their setlist, he ever offered up that little drumstick fill on the hardware from the intro of the Breeders’ Cannonball (knowing of course that he had nothing to do with the Breeders, but that it would have gotten a rise out of Frank/Charles). He grinned and conceded that no, he never did. But I like to think that I planted the seed of a future subversive act that night.

That’s my favorite Breeders song. Love the band, need to see them live if I get the chance.

I had the most random crush on their drummer, Jim Macpherson. I have no idea how I developed this crush - I just saw the “Cannonball” video and there I was. And I didn’t know anything about him and it being the pre-Internet days it’s not like I could go find more info. I would scour magazines for pictures but never found any.

It still makes me laugh to think about it. It’s very uncharacteristic of me. Maybe I liked the fact that he was cool with being the only boy in a band of kickass girls.

I just now read his Wikipedia entry for the first time. He’s from Ohio, just like me! hehe

Flipside is also a ridiculously enjoyable song.

I’m also a big Pixies/Breeders/Black Francis/Frank Black fan. Love Pod and Last Splash but I think Title TK is my favorite.
