space, just in case
In the recent movie The Butler, was the son’s girlfriend at college, (the nice girl who was on the bus with him, Carol) the same braless, belching girlfriend he brought home for dinner?
I didn’t think so, but my mom did. One of us probably needs new glasses.
Yes, same girl.
Yep. Same girl.
Same girl, different wig.
Yes, same girl. Over time she’s become more “militant,” they’ve joined the Black Panthers, and her attitude is one of “accept me as I am” and not as society expects me to be. At least that’s what I got out of it.
I thought it was part of the whole “rejecting Euro-centric ideas of beauty & behaviour” thing. Personally I agree with Gloria’s assessment, though it was funny that she had the exact same hairdo & earrings in the next scene.
It was to make her look exactly like the famous Black Panther image of Angela Davis. Has that really been forgotten?
And the underarm “merkin.”
Glad you brought this up because I assumed that yeah, it was the same girl who just got radicalized through all the abuse she went through during the Sit-Ins and Freedom Rides, but that the movie failed in showing us the transition.
