I heard that it was that his best friend was drowning, and the gorilla wouldn’t save him.
Now, the Rolling Rock Gorilla Commercial? I didn’t get THAT.

It’s a good commercial. There are no real product shots because they aren’t selling a single product; they’re selling the entire brand. Rather than send another pitch your way, they just say “We’re Cadbury, and we think this is cool.”. That’s all it does, with the goal of getting viewers to like Cadbury a little bit more. After all, you are what you buy, and you buy what you are. Furthermore, the ad strikes me as very easy to ignore once you’ve seen it a few times.
Not so: “a glass and a half [of milk]” is the strapline of the Dairy Milk bar, not Cadbury’s other products.
I was hoping to find a link to an ad where a company fires hamsters out of a cannon. Any help?
Now, now…Phil Collins is a very highly regarded drummer. I’d put him in my Top 3, along with Stewart Copeland and John Bonham. He may be a shit solo artist and a merely average singer with Genesis after Peter Gabriel left, but his drumming is pretty much untouchable.
I saw that ad a couple months ago (I thought it was linked from another thread here.) It’s great.
Are we 100% certain this is a real gorilla? I think Stan Winston could do this with a electric/hydraulic mask and a man in a monkey suit.
They had me at the song.
Who knew gorillas had rhythm?
I liked the Japp chocolate commercial (‘Banned Chocolate Commercial’) that comes after it.
It’s a great concept, but I think they pull back a bit too soon - the punchline that the gorilla is actually drumming is spoiled just a little by the fact that we see the drum kit a second or two before it starts playing…
Dammit, jjimm!
I just went to the store for some ricotta cheese, and I ended up getting a Cadbury’s. And I haven’t had a chocolate bar in months! (Still haven’t. But it’s in the house.)
Anyone doubting Phil Collins ability as a drummer should check out these links.

Sorry about the really poor video quality, but there’s not much out there on Brand X on video.
Loved it.
The idea behind the commercial is to devote time to interesting images so that people will actually watch rather than change the channel or mute. Unfortunately, the track record of people actually remembering the product associated with interesting image commercials is dismal. Everybody will talk about the gorilla commercial. A lot fewer will talk about the Cadbury commercial.
Best case is that people are drawn to the Cadbury site to see if there is something there to look at. The rest is wasted money.
I posted about this ad in MPSIMS not long ago. It truly delights me.
Thanks jjimm, I enjoyed it.
I think this ad is the best I have seen in a long long time. I’m pretty sure I also found this through the dope.
Meh. It would have been better if they cut out the first half of it. Way too much build up before reaching the punchline.
Forget the fact that it’s an ad. It’s just genius as a bit of film-making.

Which ad are you talking about? If you mean the ‘wind’ one, then I can’t really see any way they could have improved it.
Well, they do at Easter. There’s the Cadbury Bunny, which is what I thought this thread was going to be about - they do commercials where other animals try out to be the Cadbury bunny, and I thought now it was a gorilla. (The porcupine is my favorite.)
ETA - sorry, this was in reference to somebody saying upthread that they don’t think Cadbury’s advertizes in the US.
