The CanaDoper Café (2012 edition of The great, ongoing Canadian current events and politics thread.)

This just in from somewhere in western Canada - RCMP officer jams with campers in the woods. I gotta say, that isn’t the worst music I’ve ever heard.

My favourite cop drummers - Rock On.

Ha that’s awesome Cat. My boy is hitchhiking his way across Canada for the 2nd year in a row and is in Calgary right now. His girlfriend is with him this time and I’m encouraging them to stay for a couple days and see a few Stampede sights.

I should use that. I smelled pancakes an sausage as I drove up to work this morning (but it probably wouldn’t be on there, it was likely a ‘private’ function for vendors/company/customers only so I may have been able to sneak in that way)

Cops are people? Who’d a thunk it?

I was given tickets to see Amaluna last night… I think it’s my favourite Cirque performance ever! Go see it if you get the chance, it’s worth it!

The Gazette trailer looks incredible!

OT: just wanted to show off an MP for my riding, Eve Adams at some function for Veterans.

Now, I have yet to see a female MP (or, any female MPP for that matter) that carries summer dress more elegantly. I’m so impressed I might turn Blue (Tory)

OMG. for a moment it looked like she was talking to Russell Williams

Doesn’t even begin to do it justice. Seriously, that trailer is bland compared to the show. I was agape nearly the whole time - there are some things I’ve never seen before (and I’ve seen a lot of the Cirque shows!).

Eh… she’d look better in orange. Or green.

we’ve bought tickets for Quidam at the end of the month, here in Regina. We’ve never been to a Cirque show before, so very excited!

You’ll love it - Quidam is also a great show. They all are, really - I’ve never been disappointed by the Cirque. I’ve seen Quidam twice; once in the big top and once at the Bell Centre. The tent is better, but the stadium set up is nice too.

I wasn’t feeling well during Totem, so I remember having enjoyed that one less (despite the fact that we had Red Carpet tickets and VIP stuff), and then I remember just how beautiful a creature the ring dancer is and I realize I still enjoyed the show!

I’ve also seen Alegria, Mystère and Saltimbanco (I think twice), though I missed Dralion, Ovo and, obviously, the ones that don’t tour. I really want to see Dralion, it just never worked out.

I wanted to say I liked Quidam but I realized I’d seen Corteo, not Quidam. It was a fun show though. Enjoy it!

So did anyone else get hit with the rolling blackout today? Mom tells me no and work was fine, but I was a little boggled. Then again, I hate A/C so I stick to other methods to keep cool, I shouldn’t be surprised it seems like more people have A/C now than before even though it’s only really worth it for a couple weeks max each summer.

I don’t know what the stats are on AC usage in Calgary - we don’t have it, and we don’t really know anyone who has it. One sister-in-law has a portable AC unit in her house; that’s it, I think. As you say, for the two weeks you might actually need it, we just move down to the basement to keep cool.

This should probably go in the mini-rants thread - why do businesses have to set the AC to “Oh my God - why is it a meat locker in here?” Just take a bit of the edge of the heat off - that’s all I need.

I can get behind that mini rant. I don’t know what it is about A/C but if it’s turned up too high I get bad headaches which is why I don’t care that my car has no real A/C. People don’t like to drive with me because of it, but then I get to be alone in the car.

To be honest the only house I know with A/C is my friend, and her husband keeps it like a meat locker, has for the last few weeks. I don’t think they run it all the time but when he runs it he runs it.

The last two houses I lived in had AC. We used it all year round (obviously more in the summer). My wife had MS and could not have temperatures above 21C. You set the thermostat to keep the temperature between a lower and higher temperature and either the heat or the AC was activated depending.

If I ever move back to Canada, I couldn’t imagine not having it. Sweating all over the furniture - yuck!

I’d say most people in Southern Ontario have A/C; I don’t.

Then again, I’m in a bungalow (big heat sink in the basement) and we live in the country which means lots of breeze and no traffic noises with the screens open.

I can see that living in a two-story in the GTA would be different.

No, I love summer and the smells, and the heat and the breeze. Sarcophagus weather will soon be upon us.

A few years back I was in Florida on business (in April) and went to a typical family restaurant with a bar and TV screens, etc. I sat at the bar and shivered my fucking teeth off during my meal. It was horrible. I couldn’t wait to get back outside to the ambient 75 degree weather!

That’s part of why I hate too much AC inside - I’m dressed for the heat, fercryinoutloud, not for a meat locker.

When I was living in Austin I worked with a guy who had some sort of hangup about setting the AC to 70. Now, there is nothing wrong with 70 when the outside temp is 80. When it is 110 outside, 70 is just too fucking cold.
