I wasn’t sure where to put this, but this story is mundane, and probably pointless, so it fits here as well as anywhere else. As per my usual disclaimer, if the mods think it belongs somewhere else, I would be greatful if they moved it.
Not so long ago, I was out walking around the neighborhood, as I often do, when I passed the house of a particular person in the neighborhood. From inside that house, I heard yelling…the man and his wife seemed to be arguing. Being naturally nosy and liking gossip, I slowed down to listen. So, there I was, standing on the sidewalk, listening to the husband and wife fight, while their kids played in the yard.
Suddenly, boom, a kid collided with my knee. Well, the kid went flying, and my knee was hit pretty bad. I tried to put weight on it, and pain just shot up my leg. I needed ice, and fast. Knowing that I wouldn’t be able to get home, I walked up to their door and rang the doorbell. Well, the residents of the house weren’t happy to see me. They accused me of spying on them, hurting their kid (they said I kicked him), and then tresspassing, and said they were going to press charges, and that they wouldn’t let me out until the police came. How I got out of there is a long story, and I can’t tell it now (litigation is still pending), but the entire situation was annoying. More annoying is the fact that there are people who are taking his side. “You shouldn’t have kicked the kid” (I didn’t) “You shouldn’t have been on their lawn” (I wasn’t, until I had to get ice) “You shouldn’t have been peering in their window” (I wasn’t) It’s annoying. But, I don’t think they really support that neighbor so much as that they’re annoyed with me. See, not so long ago, I planted some bushes in my lawn that a lot of people say are eyesores. I’m tempted to agree with them, but it seemed a good idea at the time. (I wasn’t going to buy them, but they looked so nice in the catalog…it was this catalog of all these rare plants from Florida, and I thought I had a green thumb.)
