Jef Raskin, the “father of the Macintosh computer”, has died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 61. Raskin conceived the “Mac” in 1979, but left Apple in 1982, two years before his brainchild went on sale for almost $2500.
a5362, I just wanted to point out that my final listing was on Dec. 30, Post #277, and I picked the good Doctor too.

Definitely the strongest death trend so far in 2005…
I sure do like their song “Needles and Pins” – which I became aware of because The Ramones covered it.
And Sonny Bono was one of the co-writers of it. That always struck me as just wrong.
Google put a little tribute to Jef Raskin at the bottom of the main Google page today. It said “In memoriam, Jef Raskin 1943-2005,” with a link to a search on Jef Raskin.
When I die, I hope Google will memorialize me. I doubt it, but a person can hope.
I would like to invoke Rule #27.488d If Shirley Ujest has never heard of said dead people, no pointage allowed.
I think that would be fair.

My list is so weak this year it’s pathetic.
We’re seeing the deaths of drummers over and over. It’s like being stuck in a perverted version of Groundhog Day, or a weirder version of This is Spinal Tap.
It’s also a bad year for boxers. Max Schmeling, Coley Wallace and Jimmy Young have died; Greg Page is currently hospitalized with pneumonia.
Death has had a party
Oscar winner Teresa Wright aged 86
1950s Grand Prix driver Maurice Trintignant aged 87
Nuclear physicist Hans Bethe aged 98
Glenn Davis, who as “Mr. Outside” teamed with Doc “Mr. Inside” Blanchard in the Army football backfield during the mid-1940’s, has died at the age of 80. (link requires free subscription to site)
Probably no one picked him (I’d have been the most likely, I suppose) but Chris LeDoux died yesterday at the age of 56.
Oh, that’s a shame! I liked him!
LeDoux …seemed like such a nice guy.
Nuts.
Filmmaker Debra Hill is also dead. She was 54.
Noted comedian (especially in the UK) Dave Allen is dead at 68.
Molly Hatchet lead singer, Danny Joe Brown, is dead at age 53.
Complications from diabetes.
There must be a Flirtin’ With Disaster joke here.
Wouldn’t a **bury the hatchet ** joke be better?
spiff, I nominate you for best pun of the Death Pool thread, 2005.
Not to toot my own horn, but I think I deserve honorable mention for my Jim Capaldi line.
