The Celebrity Death Pool 2005

Philip Morrison, physicist, author and narrator of the documentary “Powers of Ten” has died at age 89.

I notice that Louis Robichaud, former premier of New Brunswick, died on January 6 and no one mentioned it. Sevo had chosen him in his/her list. I think that makes him the earliest death of the year for the people in this pool, unless we also neglected someone else.

Mason Adams died on April 26. Don’t know if anyone had him.

William Bell, who co-created the soap operas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, died Friday at the age of 78.

Also, Mexican television performer Mariana Levy died Friday at the age of 39 (according to the report linked below) or 40 (according to the birthdate listed on her IMDb bio). Since this article (the only obituary I could find online) is in Spanish, I’ll translate the first couple of paragraphs:

I can’t imagine anyone had him, but Peter Rodino has died.

Whoa…I was going to check my list around the six month mark – I hadn’t realized he died, either. Here I thought my only points this year would be 'da Pope. Beginner’s luck for a death pool newbie…

Lloyd Cutler, who served as White House counsel during the Carter and Clinton administrations, has died at 87. Cutler had recently served on the commission charged with investigating the intelligence failures which had led President George W. Bush to conclude Iraq was harboring weapons of mass destruction.

David Hackworth died May 4.

My boss thought it was kinda funny. He even understood the point system right away. (We were talking about the possibility of the new Pope being on next year’s list already…)

Frank Gorshin, the impressionist who gained his greatest fame by playing the villainous Riddler on the Batman TV series of the 1960’s, has died at the age of 71 (according to his not-yet-updated IMDb bio) or 72 (as the linked article claims).

Henry Corden, the voice of Fred Flintstone, died. I don’t think anyone had him, though.

My apologies for not doing an update in a while. I have only a few updates to make, and none of the changes affects the leading scorers, so I won’t retype the whole scoreboard now.

First off, my apologies to amarone and VunderBob; as severus correctly pointed out, Sevo has the first dead celebrity of the year, with Louis Robichaud dying Jan. 6th; Charlie Bell died Jan. 17th. I guess I’m not up on my Canadian politicians. The Opening Kickoff Award will go to Sevo.

Other than that, the only updates are as follows:

Sevo gets 21 points for Louis Robichaud, and now has 37 points.

Yllaria joins the game with 28 points for the death of Frank Gorshin, under Rule 5, since there is a question regarding his age at death.

BadBadger gets 3 points for Sir John Mills, and now has 19 points.

All of these are unique picks! Good job!

And nobody picked Redmond Simonsen, Edward Bronfman, Dale Messick, Debralee Scott, Frank Conroy, Andrea Dworkin, Johnnie Johnson, Margaretta Scott (she played Mrs. Pumphrey on All Creatures Great and Small, you know), Ruth Hussey, Stan Levey, Philip Morrison, Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen, Al Grassby, Mason Adams, William J. Bell, Mariana Levy, David H. Hackworth, Peter Rodino, Lloyd Cutler, or Henry Corden.

Congratulations, scorers!

Does anyone have Bob “Gilligan” Denver on their list?

Yes, there are three players who picked Bob Denver…

Hang in there, little buddy!

Howard Morris, who played Ernest T. Bass on five memorable episodes of the Andy Griffith Show, dies Saturday at the age of 85. In his long and varied career, Morris did everything from acting in Shakespearean theater to performing comedy sketches wuth Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca to directing the film adaptation of Woody Allen’s Don’t Drink the Water.

Thurl ‘Tony the Tiger’ Ravenscroft has died of prostate cancer at the age of 91.
You were Grrrreaaaaaaaaat!

Bummer.

Now I’m going to have to play the Grinch song to pay homage.

Thurl Ravenscroft. Coolest name ever. I was going to name my first born that but my wife made me call her Katherine.

I’m truly sorry to hear he died, but I do believe I was the only one in the 2005 Pool to have him as one of my selections.

Graham Kennedy has died at the age of 71.
