Are philosophers celebrities? Paul Ricoeur has died.
We haven’t heard from our GameKeeper lately…I wonder if she is trapped under something heavy.
Ismail Merchant has died. His films like Howard’s End and A Room With A View will never be forgotten.
The King is in the hospital! It is Friday PM here. That is like Sunday in the rest of the world (as we use a Thursday/Friday weekend). No way it is routine.
The king of Saudi Arabia has been in poor health for quite some time, right?
My boss was amused by it too. He even came here and looked at the people on everyone’s lists.
He’s been rumoured to be brain-dead ever since Prince Abdullah’s visit to Crawford last month.
Yahoo! says Eddie Albert from Green Acres has died at age 99. Did anybody have him?
Hey, watch it Rachm, your post count is getting up there
We now know the mysterious Rachm is not American (rumoured).
Well, at one point I don’t think it matters. For those looking for an in on next year’s Quantity Not Quality award, Vera Lynn is still alive. Nobody picked her this year.
God, when I first saw the title of this thread (I had no idea this had existed before) I was more than a little sickened. I couldn’t believe that people could award points for death, this whole thing seemed pretty wrong.
But then I got to reading it. Not only is it bloody entertaining (I’m compiling my list for 2006 as I write this) but it’s incredibly informative as well. I had no idea who most of these people were before following the links you were courteous enough to provide alongside the deceased celebrity. Especially to Captain Lance Murdoch for the link about the Willmar 8. That was a really great read. So yay for dopers!
I love this place…
Reaction as I explained the whole Celebrity Deathpool Thread to someone at work:
   :dubious: :smack:

Yeah, I’ve talked about the Death Pool to family and friends over the last few years and they all think I’m a sicko. That said, they’re eager to know who I’ve picked and how I’m doing, so I think they’re closet sickos too.
I had him, and I think I was the only one, too.
George Mikan the first big NBA star died at age 80.
Yeah, my coworkers find the whole idea rather sick as well.
Of course, that didn’t stop the most vocal of them from pointing out to me today that one of my picks just had cancer surgery. :dubious:
Mr. Rilch: “[celebrity] just died.”
Me: “Oh, that’s unfortunate…I wonder who had him in the Death Pool.”
Mr. Rilch: “The what?”
Me: [explains]
Mr. Rilch: "That’s SICK. That’s DISGUSTING. You guys should be ASHAMED of yourselves. I can’t BELIEVE that…
…Can I see the list? Is Jimmy Doohan on it?"
I noticed that Wikipedia is saying that William Proxmire (Golden Fleece Awards) has died (June 2) of lung cancer, but I can’t find anything on cnn.com or anywhere else.
Normally, Wikipedia is fairly reliable; this is mentioned in two places there, so if it’s vandalism, it’s thorough.
A Google News search on “William Proxmire” showed no indication that he had died.
General Burkhalter sent to the big Eastern Front in the sky. Actor Leon Askin dies at age 97.
No I didn’t have him.
It is June. Am I the only one working on my 2006 list? This time no wishful thinking. This time, the target is victory.
