The Celebrity Death Pool 2005

Guilty as charged. Everytime I hear about a celebrity suffering ill health, I make a mental note and then feel guilty about it. Watching old movies, I’m tempted to bring along a notepad so I can later Google for candidates amongst the cast. I’m a sick, sick individual.

I’ve been working on 2006 since I submitted my 2005 list.

It’s one of those bizarre hobbies (hobby’s?) that you can’t list on a resume.

I’m making mental notes for my 2006 list. This year is my first year and I’m doing very poorly, only score is The Pope. I picked mostly druggies hoping they’d do themselves in. I think next year I’m going to just get quality old people with pre existing medical conditions.

I need another death this year, or my self esteem with this game will be shot.

I’ve just realized that I’m not in the same league as some of you.

I feel horribly unprepared.

I’m not even at an apprentice stage yet.

Sure, I might get lucky this year and pick off one or two. However, even a blind dog finds a bone every once in a while.

I must seek a trainer - someone who can help me see without using my eyes.

I must find The Death Force.

qwest - takes his first steps on a journey of enlightenment.

Yoda?

I have two so far, JPII and Thurl “Tony the Tiger” Ravenscroft. As far as I know the latter was a unique choice by me.

I figure my 2006 list will be the same as 2005, with the needed number of additions to replace those who have died. So I think I’ll start doing what cazzle talked about doing.

I’ve even got my “secret weapon” chosen for next year. Somebody who’s in their thirties but I read has cancer.

Sick? Hey, I’m not the guy who started this game…wait a minute…

Anne Bancroft
is gone.
RIP and my condolences to her husband, Mel Brookes.

I would like to jump in and put a stop to all the “Here’s to you, Mrs. Robinson” jokes before they start.

You’re welcome.

Eerie…I was just thinking of Bancroft the other day.

I just learned from a thread in Cafe Society that character actor JD Cannon has died.

According to TV Guide, actor Dana Elcar has died. He was a personal favorite of mine dating all the way back to Black Sheep Squadron, but is best known for playing MacGyver’s sidekick Pete. His glaucoma and blindness were written into MacGyver, and he also appeared in a memorable episode of Law & Order as a man blinded by diabetes. :frowning:

Character actor Lane Smith,, who had roles in such films as My Cousin Vinny and The Legend of Bagger Vance, died last Monday at the age of 69. Smith also played Perry White in the TV series Lois & Clark.

In a sad coincidence, lead actors Ed Bishop and Michael Billington have died within days of each other earlier this month.

Now who runs SHADO?

More and more of my youth slips from my fingers

(stumbles off to take the 16 morning pills)

Oooooh boy. I’m in Stealth mode. Almost July, and I’m hovering at zilch, ready to pounce with amazing prognostic accuracy in the last half of the year. WATCH OUT! Here I come!!!

Karl Mueller of Soul Asylum has died of throat cancer, aged 41.

Here’s an update. Not much to report…

With the death of Thurl Ravenscroft, Baker now has 25 points. Congratulations on a unique pick!

We welcome pohjonen and Sir Dirx to the scoreboard, who each earn 1 point for the death of Eddie Albert. Woo-hoo!

And nobody picked J.D. Cannon, Paul Ricoeur, Howard Morris, Graham Kennedy, Ismail Merchant, George Mikan, Leon Askin, Michael Billington, Anne Bancroft, Dana Elcar, Ed Bishop, Lane Smith, or Karl Mueller.

Jaime Cardinal Sin, the former Archbishop of Manila whose ironic name was a fixture of “found humor” lists, has died at 76. Cardinal Sin will be remembered by his fellow Filipinos for providing spiritual leadership during the popular revolts that ousted Ferdinand Marcos (1986) and Joseph Estrada (2001) from the presidency of their nation of 7100 islands.

Nobody picked him.

Jaime Cardinal Sin
Darn and he was my alternate Death Pool pick in the event of one of my Top 10 had expired before 2005. :smack:

Jack Kilby died.
