The Celebrity Death Pool 2007

If you look at the cause of death of each of his picks, you will see a clue to his methodology.

That would mean I’d have to read the entire thread and then some. I only check in every so often to see who died and who’s winning. I was just curious.

You are not the first person to wonder these things. Really.

Doo-wop singer Hank Medress, best known as the lead vocals on “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by the Tokens has died.

Somebody should have died for that song…

This has been a bad couple of weeks for ex-Congressmen. Donald Clancy, Robin Beard, William Hungate, and Jack Flynt have all died since June 12th.

Awww now… tell me you can’t watch this video and say you feel the same way.

Rachm Qoch has won the Death Pool by a huge margin every time he has participated, and seldom posts to anything except Death Pool and Mafia game threads. His methodology appears to combine the best search engine, which ferrets out stories about extremely minor celebrities in extremely obscure publications, with the best medical knowledge, which enables him to separate immediately fatal conditions from those which merely enhance the risk of an early demise. Unfortunately, he’s so good that he has taken the fun out of these threads. The rest of us are competing for second place.

Once again, my own pick is lagging far behind the current trend. Jesse Helms, please do this world a favor and LEAVE.

Chris Benoit (WWE Wrestler) is reported dead, along with his family in his Atlanta home.

At first I thought “hmmm…must have been carbon monoxide poisoning.” Then I read the story.

Jeez.

Freaky, I just sat down to watch an SVU rerun on our TiVo, and it caught the end of the telecast mentioned in the article. I didn’t know the name, and thought, “Strange, surely I would have seen this guy mentioned in the Death Pool thread.” Didn’t know the death had just happened.

By what logic do you edit and air a three-hour tribute to a guy who, by all indications, has just murdered his family in cold blood? It was USA, not pay-per-view, so why not just put up an apology notice during breaks of the first hour of reruns of one of the many shows in their stable? Even if it’s old WWE product if they had to honor some contract?

At the time of that telecast, the whole Benoit story wasn’t known yet. It’s such a horrifying story, and seems so insanely out of character for the guy (real life, not TV persona).

Liz Claiborne, the fashion designer who in 1976 founded a company whose products became mainstays of many career women’s wardrobes, has died at the age of 78.

J.B. “Bud” Handelsman, who created nearly 1000 cartoons for The New Yorker and also contributed to such magazines as Playboy and Punch, died last week at the age of 85.

Did anyone have Joel Siegel?

Opera star Beverly Sills dies at 78

Bubbles is dead? How sad. I met her once, on a class trip to the Met. She and a few other notables (tho I’ve forgotten who) were wondering the halls for various reasons, and she stopped to talk to us.

Lung cancer. An opera singer. Good G-d.

Boots Randolph, the veteran session musician who gained fame for writing and recording the 1963 hit Yakety Sax, has died at the age of 80.

And somewhere, Jackie Wright is muttering “Bastard…it’s about time…” to himself.
