The Celebrity Death Pool 2008

Buck Adams, Adult Film star and brother of Adult Film star Amber Lynn, has died at age 52, of complications due to heart failure.

They ever do a scene together?

Heh heh. Makes you wonder, though, what kind of something going on in their early lives there was that they both became adult performers.

Estelle Reiner, wife of Carl & mother of Rob, dead at 94.

Her most memorable line? “I’ll have what she’s having.”

Gil Rossellini, 52, brother of Isabella.

Gil contracted a staph infection in 2004 that settled in his extremites. As a result, he lost the use of his legs, and some of the use of his right hand. Sometimes the results for the survivors can be more catastrophic.

His doc “Kill Gil, Volume 1” documents his struggle with the infection, the complications, the aftermath, etc.

His doc “Kill Gil Volume 2” (two years later) deals with more of the complications, including a gruesome pressure sore that he proudly displays for the camera–photographed by none other than sis Isabella.

She was also a jazz singer, painter and anti-war activist and she married a man 8 years her junior.

So you’re saying that Carl Reiner would be a respectable 14 points if he kicks it!

I believe Wile E is referring to Estelle’s second husband - but I could be wrong

I was referring to Carl Reiner because I didn’t think he was in his 90’s yet so I looked up his age and saw he was born 8 years later. I have no idea which number husband he was. I just think it’s neat that she married a younger man, both my grandmother’s did, too.

All around guy maybe best known as a Chicago author Studs Terkeldead at 96.

I’m really saddened. He edited perhaps the best collection of WWII stories I ever read, The Good War. He was also one of the best interviewers I’ve ever heard – somehow he could get things out of people that you would never expect.

Bummer - nobody had died in October so if Studs could have lasted one more day it would have saved me doing an update this month.

A unique pick for BJMoose who scores off his second nonagenarian.

Apparently, he was her only spouse, and she his lone wife.

Try “Working”. He was special old rascal.

Oh yes, I have a copy of it too. It’s very good, but it doesn’t stand out in my my like The Good War. I read it in college, and it introduced me to the term PAF, “Premature Anti-Fascist”. The concept just blew me away – it was a term, IIRC, the FBI coined to describe Americans who opposed Franco and Mussolini and Hitler before the US government took any official stance against them. Many old lefties found that they had been labeled as such in their FBI files.

Oh, yeah, like you’re gonna bust a gut moving me from 78th to 75th.

Those four points got me so excited I looked for this thread in MPSIMS.

Believe it or not, Terkel isn’t the oldest guy on my list. Anyone hear how ol’ Mitch Miller is doing lately?

ahem

Is that a whoosh, or do you only those who’ve been picked by us?

The latter. I suspect there were also several other people worldwide who died in October and did not even get a mention in this thread.

For the end of October standings, see post 1097 but move BJMoose up to equal 75th.

I am not sure you have got the hang of how the points work, BJ. If you check out the leading two dopers, they are averaging 43 and 44 points per corpse. Your maximum score is 84, which will not crack the top ten. Still, at least nobody is too sad when one of yours dies - they have all had a good innings.

It’s just not fair that the leaders have hit teams out there working for them. Not employed by them of course, that would be cheating. But still, killers who decide, “Well, if we’ve got to kill SOMEBODY, let’s take a few off THIS list.”
