The Celebrity Death Pool 2009

Oh dear God.

I was on vacation for a couple of weeks and couldn’t wait to get back and check this thread, and then I see this. Harve is family to my husband and in-laws… gotta get on the phone…

It seems really weird to find out about the death of a family member in a deathpool thread.

My condolences. He was a fine actor and singer.

Not that close a family relation, but yeah…

And thanks Sigmagirl- he was quite talented and a very nice guy.

My condolences.

no fair bringing the real world into this thread.

Finally! Someone from my list. I will wear my 7 points proudly.

seriously… as if this weren’t already a guilty pleasure…

Hey- I was out of the country on vacation!!!

I am pleased to report that paedophile Robert “Dolly” Dunn has died in prison.

A unique pick for me!

Former boxer Arturo Gatti has died.

You may get the points, but everyone’s a winner on that one.

Kim Jong Il reported to have pancreatic cancer.

From the linked article, Kim is 67 years old and suspected to be afflicted with:

  • Pancreatic Cancer
  • Diabetes
  • After effects of a stroke

The article states:

Five years?! What kind of voodoo are they going to perform on this guy to give him another 5 years on the right side of the grass?

What, for that matter, has caused pancreatic cancer to become treatable, if not curable? Back in the day (like last year), Pancreatic cancer was like an instant death sentence. There were no survivors. Patients got sick and died immediately ala Michael Landon and Randy Pausch. I know Landon was many years ago, but he fit the bill as an example.

I was feeling quite confident stacking my 2009 list with 3 pancreatic cancer patients. Let’s review:

Patrick Swayze. Granted, he’s living on borrowed time, but here we are in Q3 and he’s still kicking. Won’t I feel like crap if he keels over tomorrow?

Steve Jobs Cured! Following a pancreas removal and liver transplant, he’s back on the job.

And the aforementioned Kim with a speculative 5 year prognosis.

I’m going to reconsider strategy for next year and keep a B pool of reclusive self destructive pop stars in the stable.

Let the old bastard go quickly. He’s one of my picks for this year.

No, he and Patrick Swayze need to linger for six more months.

Congrats to Kim Jong II for a Hail Mary Pass that put him into everyone’s Short List for 2010.

Well done!

Not mine. I fell for the rumors of Castro and Ariel Sharon’s imminent demises and they still haven’t rung up the curtain and joined the Choir Invisible yet.

Now watch, Kim Jong Il will be dead in three days.

You make it sound like this would be a bad thing.

Blast it people, you are supposed to keep up with death here so I don’t have to chase it down myself. How did you all miss Charlie Brown dying on the 12th? He was 72 and has picked up his last Hugo. Although he will make the Hugo presentation one last time this year.

And after all these years, Locus was still run out of his house!
