Dead man walking. Those VADs only give a patient enough time to get their affairs in order and say goodbye to their loved ones. Doubtful he’d get a heart transplant, either. Too old and dinged up. Unless he can go overseas and buy one from some healthy yound ‘donor’ in some third world country (I wouldn’t put it past him).
Clint Hartung, a touted prospect who never achieved the baseball stardom for which so many deemed him destined, has died at the age of 87. Hartung, who pitched and played the outfield with the New York Giants from 1947-52, is remembered as a bit player in one of baseball’s most storied moments. As a pinch-runner for Don Mueller, who had injured an ankle sliding into third on a double by Whitey Lockman, Hartung scored on the “Shot Heard 'Round the World” homer by Bobby Thomson that gave rise to Russ Hodges’ immortal call of "The Giants win the pennant! The Giants win the pennant!"
David Warren, the Aussie inventor of the “black [even though it’s orange] box” data recorder has died.
