The Celebrity Death Pool 2011

Is this late for the opening kick-off (compared to previous years)?

2006: Jan 6
2007 - 9: all Jan 2
2010: Jan 21

She’s moved next door to her former girlfriend, so how about a good old-fashioned case of domestic violence?

Mick Karn has died.

I we go for the alphabetical order, I’m stuck in the middle with you guys…
RIP Gerry.

Bill Erwin Grumpy old man, snuffs it at 96.

Wow! Two years in a row … how exciting. Although I am sad about Gerry.

Amarone … what about Mick Karn? He also died today. (I had both  )

Of course I meant to say “If we go for…”

Hmm - he was not announced in this thread until after Gerry Rafferty, but he may have died first. I cannot tell. I have found reference to Mick Karn dying at 4:30 pm GMT, but have not found a time for Gerry Rafferty. Anyone know anything more about when GR died?

Update: I found a reference to GR dying “this morning” in a UK publication, so he pre-deceased MK.

Last year’s news…

Whoa, **MsWhatsit **and **amarone **had him, getting crowded over here in this hand basket.

Will be there a tie breaker or because of the international date line do we consider Mick Karn’s death to be actually on the 5th?

See post 589. Date lines are irrelevant. One died before the other irrespective of where they were, although both appear to have been in the GMT time zone.

Works for me.

Well, that was short-lived.

I have really got to stop trusting the damn Chicago Tribune links. Before too long
I will be breathlessly announcing the attack on the World Trade Center…

Alireza Pahlavi, the youngest son of the late Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, has passed away at the age of 44. Alireza, who had been despondent since the 2001 overdose death of his sister Leila, died of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

I wonder how a mythical slate of the top-13 nominees would do?

Aretha Franklin 76
Michael Douglas 67
Zsa Zsa Gabor 50
Fidel Castro 41
Kim Jong-Il 35
Ariel Sharon 34
Lindsay Lohan 33
Margaret Thatcher 33
Dick Cheney 30
Amy Winehouse 27
Abdelbaset Al Megrahi 24
Christopher Hitchens 23
Nancy Reagan 23

I did that not too long ago and had the best year for me so far. That was when Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Patrick Swayze all died in the same year.

Actually, I took the top twelve, not thirteen, and had Fred Phelps on there to round it out.

Dick King-Smith, who wrote over 100 books and was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire, has died at the age of 88. His most famous work was the novel The Sheep-Pig, which served as the inspiration for the film Babe.

It’s another Death Pool miracle!
