The Celebrity Death Pool 2013

My mostly evil theme didn’t work out so well for me this year, so I guess I need to rethink my strategy. Maybe I’ll just copy one from each of the next 13 posts. I couldn’t do much worse anyway.

No theme, just guesses.

Queen Elizabeth
Paul Gascoigne
Alex Ferguson
Britney Spears
Stephen Hawking
Joan Rivers
Graham Norton
Charlie Sheen
Neil Tennant
Neil Kinnock
Jonny Buckland
Mark Wahlberg
Clint Eastwood

I’ve been following the Death Pool for years and now I want to dip my toe in. I’ve mostly picked old people so I guess I’m going for quantity, not quality. (I also wanted Koko the Gorilla but she’s disqualified under the Not Human rule. Phooey. How many 41-year-old gorillas are there?)

So here’s my list. Let’s see how I do:

Dan “Grizzly Adams” Haggerty
Sandy Koufax
Jerry Lewis
Lindsay “Gen Y Train Wreck Female Poster Child” Lohan
Edward Furlong, Lindsay’s male counterpart
Bobby Brown
June “Rocket J Squirrel” Foray
Francine “Penny” Patterson, Koko’s Trainer
Connie Stevens
Annette Funicello

Ed Asner
Gavin MacLeod
Abe “I ain’t never gonna die!” Vigoda

Plain text form:

Dan Haggerty
Sandy Koufax
Jerry Lewis
Lindsay Lohan
Edward Furlong
Bobby Brown
June Foray
Francine Penny Patterson
Connie Stevens
Annette Funicello
Ed Asner
Gavin MacLeod
Abe Vigoda

And it all ended with a Big Bang (Bang!)

Johnny Galecki
Jim Parsons
Simon Helberg
Kunal Nayyar
Kevin Sussman
Wil Wheaton
Kaley Cuoco
Sara Gilbert
Melissa Rauch
Mayim Bialik
Laurie Metcalf
Carol Ann Susi
Vernee Watson

Thought koko had bought the farm.

Wow. Guess not.

One wonders if she will have meaningful “last words”.

You’ve got only ten names, plus three alternates.

Some comments for the less well known.

Wow, I thought he was already gone.
[adds him to my 2013 list]

Do people actually buy the MacCauley Culkin rumors?

Sure. They finally got Amy Winehouse right…

It’s like lemmings. If so many people have it, it must be true. Ask that bitch from last year, Raven Alexis.

Sorry, brain fart. :smack: I’m used to lists being 10 of something plus alternates. At any rate I have my 13.

You getting points would make me sad. :frowning:

Baker-In your term as Mistress, has anyone had a pick you’ve never heard of?

I got my list from IMDB and Wiki research- I swear I’m not smart enough to copy. :frowning:

Of the forty-three celebrities that have died so far in 2012, I’d say that about one in four were unfamiliar to me. So I do check the links on those but everything has been cool. See, I don’t know the world of sports well, and there have been some criminal and entertainment figures that are outside my sphere. I’m more into literary figures, movie actors, politicians and a few others.

Here’s an example of a unique pick for Walkabout that I’d never heard of at all, but seems to have been a truly important figure(worth 32 points too!)

Alright 2013 lets do this… as long as the rapture doesn’t happen on Dec 21st .

Lindsay Lohan
Amanda Bynes
Nelson Mandela
George H.W. Bush
Clint Eastwood
Paula Deen
Zsa Zsa Gabor
Joan Rivers
Hugh Heffner
Russell Brand
Bobby Brown
Yoko Ono
Joseph Ratzinger

Micheal Vick
Angus T. Jones
Manuel Noriega

Was wondering this too.

Also, still can’t comprehend that the star of Home Alone is agoraphobic. The two compliment each other IMHO.

There’s a few revisions on my list this year. I found out one of my co-workers is also a celebrity death follower, although she doesn’t play in any pools. She gave me a couple of recommendations. Let’s see if between us we have half a mind!

Eli Wallach (1915) - AKA “The Ugly” who had the best line in the whole movie. (“When you have to shoot, shoot. Don’t talk.” Hey, it made me fall off the couch laughing.)
Kirk Douglas (1916) - Wikipedia calls him “one of the last surviving actors from Hollywood’s ‘golden age’.” Golden ages don’t last forever and neither will he.
Beverly Cleary (1916) - She, however, will live forever through Ramona and that motorcycle-riding mouse. Did anyone else think he was less cool once he got the car?
Zsa Zsa Gabor (1917) - How many more years do we have to make “one foot in the grave” jokes, Ms. Gabor? Really now.
I.M. Pei (1917) - He designed a building in Downtown My Fair City. It’s very shiny.
Billy Graham (1918) – This would be the Rev. Graham who is spending his declining years letting his loudmouth idiot son throw his name around to lend credibility to his nonsense.
Pauline Philips (1918) – Dear Abby Sr. Not the one who’s currently writing the column; that’s her daughter Abby Jr.
Al Jaffee (1921) - The reason why the back page of your Mad Magazine was always creased. (Did anyone else think that Mad had a distinctive smell?)
Margaret Thatcher (1925) – Love her or hate her, she’s still on my list.
Nelle Harper Lee (1926) - She did what she did well and she only had to do it once.
Ariel Sharon (1928) - I won’t give up on you, Mr. Sharon. You were the Zsa Zsa tease before Zsa Zsa.
Gene Wilder (1933) – My co-worker suggested this pick. I’m choosing him on faith, but I’d hate to see him go.
Ruth Bader Ginsberg (1933) – The pancreatic cancer pick. You have to have at least one.

Mikhail Gorbachev (1931) - The Abe Vigoda of international politics
Morley Safer (1931) - His Wikipedia page is very educational. Through clicking links I discovered that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was Tommy on Third Rock from the Sun. I did not know that.
