Probably a reference to a social disease.
Ken Venturi, former US Open Golf Champion and CBS Golf Announcer, dead at 82.
Sadly, his long time partner in the golf broadcast booth was Pat Summerall. He was just inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame less than two weeks ago
He nearly died of heat exhaustion when he won the 1964 US Open in the Washington DC area.
He overcame stuttering to be a well respected golf announcer on CBS for many, many years.
I had a golf themed list, but Ken Venturi was not one of my picks.
RIP Kenny “Whoa Down”
I doubt anyone had him, but I was dismayed to find out Aubrey Woods died a couple weeks ago.
Most well known for playing the candy shop owner and singer of “Candy Man” in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Not an actor most people would know by name (I didn’t), but by face and description, probably fairly well known.
Nobody had Aubrey Woods.
Several games ago I had a voice actor, Thurl Ravenscroft. He was a unique pick for me when he passed away. Mr. Ravenscroft was a prolific worker, probably best known for two roles. He was the voice of Tony the Tiger, from the beginning of the character, and he sang the song “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch”, in How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Voice actors rarely get the credit they deserve.
Ravenscroft also sang the bass part in the “Grim Grinning Ghosts” song for the Haunted Mansion rides at Disney theme parks.
Got one for you to use next year Baker.
Alan Young (Wilbur Post from Mr. Ed), who has been the voice of Scrooge McDuck, age 93.
Thanks CAMJAY77
Believe it or not I already had him in standby mode. When I was doing research I listed folks who were at least 95, but kept on going for a couple years less than that, so that if many die I won’t have to look as hard this coming December. Here is how I have Alan Young listed:
Alan Young, actor, he was Wilbur. Do I have to explain who Wilbur was?
With all the old celebrities I listed I really thought I had a chance this year. But so far I have only one point, for Rise Stevens.
I know Alan Young more from The Time Machine, where he has the same Scottish accent he uses for Scrooge.
Do you have the Best Actress Academy Award winning sisters who are 95 and 96 years old, or the 103 year old who was the first woman to win two Academy Awards, first actor to win multiple Academy Awards and the first person to win them consecutively?
June Foray is 95 and still performing.
I had June Foray on my list too, but somebody else also picked her so I took her off. All my selections are at least ninety-five, and are unique picks.
Since I’m using unique picks only that’s why I don’t have Joan Fontaine and Olivia de Havilland. And I don’t have the 103 year old because my search was for between ninety-five and one hundred. Of course, now that Douglas Slocombe, the cinematographer has reached one hundred I’ll have to decide whether or not to keep him on the list in December. Doug, go to the light!
Ray Manzarek no longer asking baby to light his fire.http://www.tmz.com/2013/05/20/ray-manzarek-dead-the-doors-cancer/
NOOOOOOOOooooooo!!!
I didn’t know that I was that old.
I guess he broke on through…
Tell me about it!!! Dang! The Doors, one of my favorite rock bands of all time. Light My Fire one of my favorite songs of all time!
I dated a woman in Tull, Arkansas.
There are single lane bridges, with drunkards returning to a dry county racing to get across the bridges.
A curve near one of these is so steep that I couldn’t see anything over the hood of my Grand Torino except water.
Driving home once at 1:00 AM, the radio station played The End.
It was scary.
