I still marvel that I’m at 17th place (tied really) in my first year.

We bow before RAL, and we bring her pizza and beer, for she makes us nervous.
Everyone on my list just keeps on gettin’ better and better.
From here on out it’s going to get interesting between RAL and CAMJAY77. As I mentioned earlier, the picks in common they had are all dead, so now, when any of their choices die, their status relative to each other is going to change. RAL is still quite aways in the lead, but that could change with a single death. If Bernadette Nolan should die before her birthday later this year, CAMJAY will be in the lead by a single point.
It’s possible, although still unlikely, that we could have a tie. I don’t ever remember that happening.
Maybe we need a sudden death snerk tiebreaker.

What makes this interesting is that CAMJAY could vault into the lead if any of his youngest three picks, um, lead into the vault. Baker’s already mentioned Bernie Nolan, but Michael Weiner’s a year younger than Nolan, and Crowe was born in 1975.
No, what makes it interesting is I also picked Crowe and if she dies, I jump all the way up to #12.
However, I’m starting to have my suspicions. Back in December, the reports were that Crowe had only a few weeks at most to live. I checked a couple of weeks ago and I find no record of her death. But I also don’t find any record of her impending death being denounced as a hoax. It appears she just went off the grid after last Christmas.
When I was Googling to try to come up with a date of birth for her, I noticed that there was nothing about her in the news since December. However, between having missed her 15 minutes of fame in December, and having been too busy yesterday to devote any time to learning details about her situation, I didn’t think much of it.
Most scammers of the attention-getting sort can’t resist coming back to the well for more, so to me her having dropped out of sight suggests a greater likelihood of legitimacy. It’s always possible that she never really had cancer, and took the money from “Smile” and decided that was enough. But maybe the targeted therapies she said she was raising money for were real, and have kept her alive this long.
The absence of any followup stories in the British press is kinda weird, though. Maybe they’ve come to suspect they were played but don’t have solid proof, and as a result, really can’t report further one way or the other.
We should only be so lucky to have a 1-12 month warning before our demise…
