Most of mine will carry over and then I’ll add sick celebrities I’ve heard about this year that manage to make it into the new year.

I am thinking of a themed list for this year, with most of the picks averaging over 70 years old. Or, I could keep my current list, updating it for the two that have passed, and use the theme names on this other board.

Of course, if I give up one of my current lists, I’m condemning to death the people that are set aside.

Yep. I have 10 names on the list already, plus all of my survivors from this year… which so far is everyone. Problem is going to be deciding who to leave off.

George Thornton died Sunday at age 84 in Medford, Oregon.

PORTLAND, Ore. - The man who made the decision to blow up a dead whale on the Oregon coast - in a blunder that will forever be a legendary footnote in the state’s history - has passed away. His name was George Thornton and he was a highway engineer for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) at the time. He died Sunday at age 84 in Medford.

After a dead whale washed up in Florence in November of 1970, ODOT, with Thornton at the lead, came up with a plan to get rid of it. The idea was to blow it up into tiny pieces and let the seagulls take it from there. But it didn’t work out as planned. Instead, giant pieces of blubber were sent flying into the air. The blubber rained down on the immediate area and a large piece even landed on a car.

Through July 4, 121 players had scored a collective 7,681 points, if I got everything into Excel without screwing up. Since then, with the same caveat, only 11 players have scored at all, for 475 points between them. And (without going back through the thread to check) those points must’ve come from only five or six deaths.

For the past few months, it seems, the best way for a celeb to stay alive is to be on any Doper’s list. :eek:

That was on October 23. I don’t believe there have been any deaths for points since then.

That was on October 23. I don’t believe there have been any deaths for points since then.

Through July 4 of last year, 121 players had scored a collective 9,219 points. We scored an additional 586 points through Oct. 31.
