Hal Needham dead at 82.
“What Needham will be remembered most for is the first movie he directed, the ridiculously joyous, action-packed, and very funny Smokey and the Bandit. It was the second highest-grossing movie during 1977 (after Star Wars), a cultural touchstone for three generations of Americans, and the movie that sold a couple hundred thousand Pontiac Firebird Trans-Ams.”
Emmy Award-winning actress Marcia Wallace, who voiced the “Simpsons” role of Edna Krabappel and played wisecracking receptionist Carol Kester on the classic sitcom “The Bob Newhart Show,” has died at the age of 70.

Lou Reed, Velvet Underground Leader and Rock Pioneer, Dead at 71 – Rolling Stone
Was I the only person who was startled to find out that Lou Reed was a year older than Marcia Wallace?
Turns out Lou Reed ain’t dead. I think. Trying to find confirmation now.
Well, hell. Media Mass is a satire site? I didn’t know that.
Guess he’s dead, after all (found multiple news reports). Sorry about that, folks.
ABC News reported it on their Sunday broadcast. CNN.com and ABCNews.com are reporting it, with the latter saying they confirmed it with his publicist. So it sounds like he’s really truly dead.
He’s taking a walk on the dead side, then?
Only a little dead.
'e’s not dead, just sleeping.
I just realized, it’s less than five weeks until the beginning of the 2014 Death Pool thread! Does everyone have a preliminary list ready"
I played one list here, and another list on a different board(where I was not the Death Mistress) I have a total of three points, from the list here.
Yeah, I have a list ready. It started about 10 seconds after I submitted mine for this year.
I have a working list. But I’m still trying to decide if I should dump it and go with a theme I’m thinking about.
Most of mine just carry over. :dubious:
I’ve played twice. I’ll probably just use my survivors.
Yup, me too.
This is my first year playing and I got some points in January! I thought I had this thing figured out. Hah. Nothing at all since then; went from first place to 114th place just like that. So I’ll just need to add one name to the current list to be ready for 2014.
