Yeah, ‘Happy Holidays’ seems much more religious than just saying Merry Christmas. We all know Christmas = Santa Claus, and Santa Claus does NOT equal JC, no matter how fat and jolly he might really have been.

Christmas = commercial. Holidays = holy days.

I like 'em all, despite not being religious, and assume that whatever greeting comes out of someone’s mouth is a reflection of THEIR beliefs, not a pandering to mine. And since it’s impossible for me to be offended by someone else’s religion, why on earth would I care how they express their joy or sympathies or commercial values for the season? Whatever they utter, I’ll utter in return out to be polite.
And if that’s the wrong response, then I guess I won’t be asked to the SuperSecretCeremonies on the high holy days.

That was (half of) my point. Can’t you wait until Thanksgiving to piss me off? Isn’t that what that holiday* is for?

  • A contraction is NOT the same as a corruption, or perhaps a better term would be “portmanteau”. Holiday is not a contraction. (In case any one is bored with the end of the year religious war and would like to start a different rant.)

Oh, dear, was I coming across as a martyr? I am really saddened that people I know have bought into this ugliness.

I think I’ll go to Mass on the solstice to pray for religious tolerance in this world. I wonder if I can find a Religious Tolerance prayer candle somewhere?

Here in Australia our one true holy day, every year, is the first Tuesday in November. And no we don’t care about your election.
