The Cleveland Browns march to 0-16 thread

That’s actually pretty amazing for nine games. Sad, but amazingly so.

Zastudil, the punter, is out for the season. The best TE Steve Heiden too.

Which… sounds irrelevant, except Zastudil was having one of the best punting seasons I’ve seen… and on a team that punts 18 or 20 times a game, was actually a significant contributor to us losing every game 33-3 instead of 48-3. We probably wouldn’t even have that one pathetic win if not for a remarkable punting unit performance.

No Heiden means more Robert Royal. I have seen passes bounce off his face mask, off his stomach, and off his shoulder. Now I get to see what other body parts he can bounce a pass off of.

All he has to do is run a route six yards deep or more and he will ensure that there’s no chance of a pass bouncing off any body part.

With Zastudil out, I think the Browns should go for the gusto: no more punting.

Why not? They’ve got nothing to play for anyway. What if they stopped punting and reeled off 3 or 4 wins in a row? Mangini would be lauded as a ballsy genius, and not punting would become the new wildcat. At the very least, pick a yard line beyond which you absolutely will not punt, and play for four downs from beyond that point. For the Browns, I’d say beyond their own 40 yard line, no punting (midfield would probably be better, but the Browns offense rarely gets there, so that’s no fun).

I would base it on the distance to go rather than field position. Go for it on 4th and 5 or less, Man(genius?)

Picked this up from another message board.

Well, at least maybe the game has meaning now besides the #1 overall pick implications.

Current rumor is that Charlie Casserlie (GM Redskins, Texans) is talking to the ownership. Not sure if it’s the “football czar” president type position or GM.

Go Lions!

A Cleveland victory over Detroit might be the ultimate Phyrric victory for Mangini. He wouldn’t get fired, but… he’d still be the head coach of the Browns.

Mangini isn’t fit to be coach of the Washington Generals, much less the Browns.

Of course not, he’s not a basketball coach. <blink>

Casserly? Charlie effin’ Casserly? That’s like hiring the Divine Wind Babysitting Service.

I was never impressed by Casserly during his stint on ESPN.

Well, he does look an awful lot better re the Mario Williams/Reggie Bush thing these days.

That was Casserly’s call for the Texans? Okay, yeah, that bumps him up a few notches.

Well, not only Reggie Williams, but Vince Young, the hometown …er … homestate hero. The debate was probably between Bush and Young, and he managed to piss everyone off.

Young/Bush…I love it.

Paedo.

They came out as college juniors. It’s all good…mmm, Young college junior Bush.

Ohio University actually has an all female dorm called Bush Hall. What were they thinking?
