The Cleveland Browns march to 0-16 thread

Would’ve been a more interesting season.

There are a bunch of quarterbacks coming out who will put butts in seats this year. I wouldn’t be so sure nobody will trade up.

Silly Browns. They’re so terrible they can’t even tank a season well. What are they playing for?

SenorBeef, why do you think the Brownies would take Suh if they had the chance? Don’t they have a really good DT already?

They’ll probably be switching to a 4-3 next year.

Looks like the Browns are at least trying to get the loss. Question is: why is Kansas City trying to win??
ETA: In other news, the Lions are still pitiful. Couldn’t convert 4th and 1 at the enemy 8 yard line after calling a time out in the 4th quarter…
EETA: “pitiful” is too strong. They ARE making a game of it against the Cardinals.

Jerome Harrison: 286 yards rushing. That’s 3rd best in NFL history.

Just shows what happens when the cream of the league meet up with each other. :stuck_out_tongue:

Victory by the Browns. Some great running. Some lousy Chief tackling. Good result, so maybe they can finish with 4 or 5 wins!

Holy shit. I saw the 71-yard run during a gamebreak and still didn’t bother to flip over.

Well, at least SB can’t complain about Harrison’s touches anymore.

Why the fuck not? I am seething with rage, actually. He’s been on the roster for 4 fucking years, and he’s been the unquestionable best running back on them for 3. And all he has ever done when given the chance is perform - consistently and far above average. And what does he get for it? He gets 3 touches, turns them into 40 yards, then gets benched for the rest of the game, and then spends the next 2 weeks on the inactive roster. Gets another game, gets 5 touches, turns them into 70 yards, and then benched and inactive again.

WHAT THE FUCK? I’ve been saying it for years - we’ve had a great back on the roster for years and he can not get any action.

Now his contract is up and we have no running back and we’ll probably dump him in the offseason because this team apparently hates him - over two coaching staffs, too. And if I were him, I sure as fuck wouldn’t want to stay here, after doing nothing but produce my first 4 years and yet never getting any chances.

I’m just glad Dwayne Rudd didn’t run onto the field to throw a helmet.

Since the Browns seem to be playing themselves out of the Suh sweepstakes, let me ask a question about the 3-4: do you think one of the prime rationales for running the 3-4 is that it’s easier and cheaper to find a good 4th linebacker than it is to find a good 4th defensive lineman? I don’t particularly feel like examining the salary numbers on linebackers in the NFL, but if any else has, feel free to chime in.

Man, Josh Cribbs is having a year, isn’t he?

All the Bucs have to do is start winning. We have the better pick over the Rams, although it’d be nice if they won, too.
Moidalize, it seems to go both ways, though. I suppose it might be cheaper to find the good 4th linebacker, but the 4th linebacker, in theory, makes you more susceptible to athletic tight ends and especially on routes run right up the hash marks.

Cribbs’ year is pretty good, but not as good as his HOLY SHIT BEST RETURN SEASON OF ALL TIME 2007 season.

I’m thinking of making a “Josh Cribbs is the best special teamer ever” thread but I need to compile some stats and highlight reels. (I say special teamer because he’s not just a returner - he leads the team in special team tackles every year and some of them are brutal. Dude is a football player, not a track star)

Btw, I was actually hoping for the Chiefs to score at the end there. I wanted Harrison to break the all time single game rushing record in overtime. He was only a carry away.

SB, is Harrison that good, or is he the second coming of Lee Suggs from the end of 2004? While I agree with you that Harrison hasn’t been given the real chance he deserved, however, heading into today’s game this season he had 88 carries for 301 yards for an average of 3.4 yards/carry, a hardly impressive figure.

He’s that good, yes. He has sucked this year earlier because the entire team sucked on historically bad levels during the first half of the season. Nothing was working well. Check out his career stats.

Edit: I also think Lee Suggs was good, but brittle and had a spinal stenosis problem that forced an early retirement.

Ahh… Lee Suggs. The next Willy Green, Travis Prentice or Reuben Droughns. All had one fantastic season in them. Which is just like Harrison. Who wants to bet the Browns will be set for next year with JH, and he turns out a dud, like the rest of 'em?

Seems somebody up there was listening. :frowning: That said, if I have to pick between the Bucs winning enough to retain Raheem Morris and Suh, I’ll take Morris. Tired of everyone else going to Super Bowls with our defensive assistants.

Unfortunately, I can’t see the Browns’ yards per rush before this week now. It’s currently 4.2, but I’m assuming Harrison’s ridiculous day has totally skewed it.

How impressive is it that the Browns scored so many points and had what, 60-something yards passing? That’s pretty incredible.

I hate to defend Mangini, whose head I’ve been asking for all year, but…is it possible that the team is buying in? They’ve been playing hard with nothing to play for, unlike some other teams (cough Bears). They could conceivably win these last 2 games and finish 5-11, which is what I originally expected at the beginning of the season. At the very least, they’re giving Holmgren a clear indication of the team’s strengths and weaknesses so he can begin fixing them.
