First, I just now realized I killed one of the greatest threads ever. (Being I having the last post before an unexpected ressurrection.)
Second, no response on the sig request. Well Cervaise, I got the last laugh. To this day I still use the phrase “I’ll punch [person] in the tit!”. Forever thankful for that one.
Anyway, to the purpose of the thread. And I think it belongs here as it involves how the board is run. If not move it or let me know where it may better be posted.
Has there ever been a hard and fast rule on the length of time between posts? From what I’ve always known the general rule is 30 days or so. At times there are exceptions, but they are few and far between. And rightly so. No need to raise a thread from the dead after 6 months because someone thought of something witty. Or more likely, because someone new to the boards just found the thread and doesn’t notice it’s 3 years old.
Is there a way to come up with a set timeline after the final post in a thread to close it? Not to stifle future discussion, we can always start a new thread if what we want to say is so important, but rather to reduce the time Mods have to spend responding to reports of resurrected threads? Not that you Mods need more free time to close threads for petty reasons, rather to take some of the load off you to spend more time in deciding if a thread shoudl actually be closed. (There, that should cover the Pit requisite in a way.)
There must be some way to set this up so a thread’s last post date will auto-close a thread. The threads like Telemarketers, Blimps, and Waterbeds (what the fuck ever happened to Master Wang-ka???) IMO should be offered up for vote on creating a new forum of only the truly classic threads.
This would prevent years old threads totally worthy of new Dopers reading form being subject to the ignomious distintion of being locked and closed. Any shot at getting threads closed when they age to the point that they will be anyway if brought up again? Or is there no way to set that up automatically based on last post date?
Again, not a pit in what it’s become known as. This seemed the best forum, though, as it’s about the running of the board.
