So, for his New Year Resolution, The Cody decided to stop smoking. Cold Turkey.
These past two days, he’s been grumpy/irritable/snappy.
Having never quit smoking, I don’t know how to help him through this, or how to ease the grumpiness.
Any advice on how to help him?
Or do I just need to wait it out?
I understand that blowjobs (the receiving side, that is) are good stand-ins for nicotine fixes and fits.
Sorry, no real good advice to offer.
Heh. I certainly can’t let him read this thread now. Give him ideas.
C’mon, any ex-smokers out there? Any ideas at all?
Wait it out. Let him be as grumpy as he needs to be, but you try to stay on an even keel. It shouldn’t last more than a week or so. When I quit, I didn’t want help so much as I just wanted to be left alone, and cheeriness or over-solicitousness just made me grumpier.
On the practical side, it sometimes helps to have some chewing gum or crunchy snacks like carrot and celery sticks on hand. Maybe you can get some for him. If worse comes to worst, he might consider nicotine gum, but if he can stand cold turkey, it’s probably the fastest way through the worst stage.
Ahem. He can’t eat crunchy or sticky food because of the point of decay of two of his rear molars.
I would’ve preferred that his NY Resolution was to take care of his teeth (they’ve been going downhill since before we hooked up - he’s also had an apt to get them fixed, but overslept. ARG!). He goes through 2 2ltr bottles of Mountain Dew Code Red a week, and would drink a 12 pack of Mellow Yellow if I didn’t give him the Glare of Death whenever he tries to get any. And he eats almost nothing but Fudge Rounds at work. Man, it’s painful to watch.
He’s been smoking for close to 3 years now. How long should I expect grumpiness, and he’ll probably want to know when he’ll start to feel better (he quit due to a bad cough/cold he’s had since Nov).
