The Colony starts on Discovery on July 21.
I’m a bit worried that the reality aspect of it will be stupid - I don’t care much about “survivors” sniping at each other and being catty, so hopefully it won’t go in that direction.
There seems to be a lot of focus on the “builds” they need to do, and that could be fun and interesting. There also seems to be an effort to include mock threats to the enclave.
I know there are quite a few aficionados of post-apocalypse literature here. Anyone else planning on watching?
I loves me some post-apocalyptic fiction (I even liked “Woops!”), so I’ll have to check it out.
Conflict within the group is inevitable and would be a problem for a real post- group, but I agree that focusing too much on that would be a bad TV-show decision.
Sounds kind of interesting. If nothing else, it might be educational. You can never have too many tips & hints on how to survive after the apocalypse. The site mentions they’ll have to build a greenhouse, but I wonder if they’ll be getting any animal protein?
I hope they call it Megaton.
I’m in. This sounds less like monkeys competing for the biggest banana and more like a challenge for a group of people over all. More like an experiment really. I’ll give it a couple of episodes at least.
Heck, I’ve often mused on what I’d do if I was in a barricaded shopping mall during a zombacalypse (i.e. Dawn of the Dead). The actions of the characters in the movie always struck me as suicidally stupid.
I have great faith in the ability of reality TV to suck. That said, I’m cautiously optimistic about the concept, at least, and I’ll have to check it out.
Now that I know about it, I’ll definitely watch. I’m a huge fan of post-apocalyptic science fiction.
I’ll give it a chance…what I’d really like to see is the ability to ‘off’ someone. You know if I were trapped with a bunch of people during an apocolypse, I’d have no hesitation in offing the mouthy stupid one that wanted to do something which could get us all killed.
Or for just annoying me…ya know…whichever came first.
