A Long time ago in a galaxy Far,Far Away, I was an Art Major.
The colors Hazel and Titian, are rarily referenced, and when they are, Hazel, is always associated with eye color and Titian seemingly, is always associated with hair color. Why are there no Hazel cars or Titian colored homes?
Never heard of Titian, but people say I have hazel eyes. Although the Hazel Nut is brown, I assumed Hazel as in eyes are meant to mean eyes that have green and brown in them. Indeed, if I look closely, I see even bits of blue in my eye.
Well, Titian used to refer to hair color came about because the artist Titian had the habit of painting women with a particular shade of red hair. While most people consider it a striking color, closer to orange than true red, it’s not a shade that we choose for things outside of hair. Orange is a tough color to match, and many people find it unsettling in large amounts. So, I would suppose that it simply hasn’t strayed outside the realm of hair.
Hazel, on the other hand, started off as the name of a tree, then referenced the color of wood, which was a yellow-brown. At some point, it became a name, meaning “commander” (according to www.babynameworld.com), which is interesting, because we now only use it as a girl’s name. From there, I suppose, it began to be used to describe that kind of eye color that shifts from brown to green.
