The Complete Acid Planet Collection by Snowboarder Bo Snoarder

The Complete Acid Planet Collection is everything I posted to Sonic Foundry’s (and later Sony’s) AcidPlanet.com from 29 October 2000 until 15 September 2006: 58 songs most of them produced from 2000-2002. This was a time of prosperity like I had never known in my life, and it afforded me enough money & free time that I was finally able to indulge in my dream of having my own studio and spending lots of time in it, and so it became a time of productivity as well.

I also worked arranging, mixing and mastering on many of these in remote settings: on airplanes and in airports, in hotel rooms, backstage at gigs, on camping trips and on snowboarding weekends. I recorded outdoors, in stairwells & bathrooms, in canyons, near waterfalls, out on Lake Mead and on more than 1 ski slope.

For many years, until about 2007, these songs were almost all I listened to, becoming the soundtrack to my life in the early part of the 21st century. I rode around in my truck, hiked mountains and canyons, kayaked rivers and lakes and yes, snowboarded while listening to pretty much just my own music. I still listen to them regularly, like I do with stuff I wrote before and after this period; I really like making my own soundtrack, eh.

Anyway, I’m telling y’all this because back in May, I went to the Acid Planet site to check on something and I noticed a banner at the top of the page that the website was shutting down on (I thought) 15 June and that all content would be deleted! I got to work, documenting all my song pages and making sure I knew where I had copies of all the songs, etc. and I decided that I rather liked them being on the intarwebz, ddammit, so I started making a video every day or two… and then I noticed that the shut down wasn’t on 15 June, it was on 25 May!!! AHHHH! PANIC! I stopped making videos long enough to be SURE I had everything I needed from the website.

Then I got to work again.

It’s taken me over a month, but I’ve made and posted videos on YouTube for all 58 songs. I’ve used the original .GIF or picture (most of them cribbed off the internet, some that I made myself) that I posted with the song 12-18 years ago (yes, I still have them) as best I could; there were a few that Acid Planet had lost and I couldn’t remember what I had used all those years ago.

On Acid Planet, I was known for a time for my, um, creative song descriptions, so I preserved those too by posting them in the text beneath the videos. Also when the song was posted and how many listens it had. Yes, those numbers are from the time the song was posted until the website shut down. :stuck_out_tongue: I’m not much a of a salesman and to be honest, the songs were written for me, tho it’s always a bonus when others like them too, of course; that’s why I shared them.

For a short time I was also a part of an artists collective; we called ourselves Spastikwax. There are numerous references to others from this group and many songs use samples or loops that they provided to me and/or the group; I remain indebted to them all for their friendship and our time spent working and talking with one another. Should they ever stumble upon this post: thank you to ether drift, Doctor Zero, Nuxx, Ixi, SudoAngel, Netrop, Red Alien, Paradigm2K and everyone else (I lost or misplaced my list long ago; /shrug).

There’s some good stuff here, IMO. There’s some stuff that I cringe at, too. There’s some techno, some chillax (ok, a lot of chillax), some industrial rock, some salsa bits, a dash of flamenco here and there, a flute solo, a trombone solo, harmonica, lots of sax, rock songs, banjo songs, jazz piano/guitar songs and prolly a few songs that are maybe just plain weird. Most are instrumentals, but a dozen or so have vocals. There’s even a handful of remixes of major artists like Beastie Boys, Madonna and Black Eyed Peas. I’m proud of it all, even the cringe-y bits, and am pleased to share it with y’all, should you care to listen. It’s a lot of music, 58 songs & about 4 hours total!
