New Guinea is not a country – it’s divided between Papua New Guinea (the eastern part) and the Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Papua (this area was formerly known as Irian Jaya).
Borneo is divided among the country of Brunei, the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak (Malaysia also includes the Malay Peninsula), and the Indonesian portion (Kalimantan).
Tahiti is not a country – it’s the main island of French Polynesia.
Caledonia is an old name for Scotland. The Pacific “island collectivity” of New Caledonia belongs to France, but a referendum on independence is slated for sometime between 2014 and 2019.

Practically big enough to be a category on its own Which is a semi-serious answer … round here if someone said “look at that Asian man over there” and the guy was Indian, you’d be looking behind him to find the Thai/Malaysian/Chinese/Vietnamese person your friend was really talking about. If I were categorising people by ethnicity I’d put in a separate box for Indian/Pakistani.
Also, if the “Asian” category is going to involve India and China it’s waaaay to big! We need a little more precision here
