I was amused to see that, in the “Frequently Bought Together” section of that page, the other items were TMBG CDs.

At the time it came out, that song was really very different from everything else in the charts, with a strange narrative and protagonist, and vaguely poetic lyrics - but rather than being avant garde musically, it has an incredibly catchy tune. Therefore guaranteed cult hit.

And a great video, at least IMHO. One of these years, I’m gonna dress for Halloween like one of the flannel-shirted zombies.

I’ve been listening to TMBG since Flood came out in 1990…and I’ve listened to “Birdhouse in Your Soul” hundreds of times.

But most lyrics generally go right over my head–I never would have put two and two together and figured out the significance of a blue canary nightlight. :smack:

I got really excited when I saw that nightlight used in an episode of HBO’s “Bored to Death.” And then they played the song over the end credits and it made me even more excited that the nightlight wasn’t used randomly.

I’ve already got a Black Canary nightlight. It’s in the shape of a hot blonde in fishnet stockings.

If there was a night light in the shape of a single stockinged leg, now that would be a Christmas gift. Especially if it was made in the Italian town of Frajeelay.

I still like the “Annoyatron” from ThinkGeek that the SDMB recommended 2 years ago.
I mean, they were so versatile, you could drop one between the dashboard & windshield of a car or tape one to the inside of a manila folder under “St” in the office file cabinets. Heck, you could even duct tape one of those under a table at a Starbucks…
