Not official answers:
It would almost have to be private. Otherwise, if the last lyncher didn’t pray, then everyone else would know that e was going over to the sinful side, and would immediately vote for em.
I think this is the same thing I asked above, to which the answer was that prayers are not restricted.

Praying is a Night Action, and it follows the rules for regular night actions.
Meaning that it has no extra cost, does not hamper one’s ability to talk, etc. (Though if the player has another night action, he can’t do both.)
So everything is normal, it’s just that you lose your night action for the next two nights, got it.
