I am trying to find something else, but I couldn’t pass that up.
Fair enough. All I can say is that I wasn’t getting quite the scummy vibe you were from IS’s posts, and reading your comments didn’t make me see what you were seeing. And I’m also not clear exactly why you are so convinced about one possible explanation for his fixation on Sin being the correct one. Seems to me that he could be Town or Blackheart worried about the Sinners, he could be a Sinner trying to encourage mistaken thinking about the topic, or he could be either flavor of scum trying to talk about something that looks like he’s participating without actually helping to find scum.
I am really going to want to talk to a few people after this entire game is over with.
I think once I get my answers, and otherwise complete this game, my Mafia skill will improve 1000%.
The following is NOT as OMGUS as it appears to be. At the same time, I don’t have all the information I need yet. I will return to this later on.
Unvote Peeker
Vote Mahaloth
And incidentally enough, those are the two people I want to talk to, after all is said and done here.
Meeko, I’d be very curious to know your reasons for voting Mahaloth. And I think you’re misunderstanding the meaning of OMGUS, because you’re the one person in the game right now who would be justified in placing an OMGUS vote. OMGUS is when you vote for someone just because they voted for you, and voting for a known Mason is about the scummiest thing anyone could possibly do in this game right now.
Uh, Meeko, that’s the second tim you have voted for me without any stated reason.
Last time, you seemed to think voting for me just proves that you are…willing to vote for me. This time, you give no reason whatsoever.
Actually, you voted Peeker toDay as well and gave NO reasons for it.
You really need to try to be more pro-town when making your voting decisions. I mean, if you have actual reasons for supsecting peeker or me, then go for it, but your votes toDay have been lame…as was your vote for me yesterDay(or the Day before, whenever it was).
Obviously, I meant “time” in the first sentence above.
Hopefully I will tackle both of these quotes, and then some. Perhaps, if we work together, I can successfully WOW my self.
I doubt that anyone (Me included) would want me to WoW other players. It appears to be a daunting task, and my Take on things would… get over inflated. People are already upset that people are skimming other people’s WoW. My WoW would be, longer than IT.
It was my assumption that OMGUS was perhaps the opposite of WIFOM ; That OMGUS was shorthand for “I have my reasons to vote X, not that any of you will ever know them.”
Given this, and the response that Mahaloth has given, I am indeed now faced with two conflicting views.
Do I really need to explain why I was voting for Peeker? I thought the town pretty much already agreed. The implication I was picking up, was that we would all more or less bandwagon him immediately at day break.
It is interesting, because I do not know what Peeker was/is after in voting Mahaloth. I am fairly sure, however, that we are not voting for the same reasons.
I can tell you, that I am voting Mahaloth, today, deliberately for the reaction I am getting. Or, I should say, a reaction that I have not yet gotten.
The real poser here, is that I am not fully convinced that Mahaloth is scum.
I look at Paul 1.0 and I honestly wonder how far away Mahaloth is from that. - We debated Paul 1.0 how many times? I honestly wonder if there are not more … advanced roles such as Paul 1.0’s was.
Once a player no longer has a majority vote, there is no real reason to still vote for him, is there?
This game is not as straight forward as an open ballot reverse popularity contest.
Think about both of these statements.
I feel that I must say what I will say next, because you guys will deduce it further, if I don’t. and I feel it would be better if I say certain things now.
While remaining Town, I am way outside the box here. Way outside. I wish to test something, and I am in the process of doing that. I may not have the time later.
I have said too much, yet, I feel some will say I have not said nearly enough.
I really need to see ANY forbidden thread before I play Mafia again.
I am looking at the “dead thread” for The Split game that pede ran. …
Yeah. Once I get to look at the forbidden thread in here, I think my Mafia skill will improve 1,000,000 times over.
See Meeko, here’s the thing. Voting is always useful. It doesn’t matter if one player has 90% of the vote, vote anyway. It is one of the key pieces of information available to Town. And justification of a vote is also necessary. Voting for someone using rehashed and already stated reasons, it looks bad, but not as bad as voting without justification. Put your opinions out there so that you can be judged against them and your actions.
Time is never your own in this game, is it?
I have my reasons, I am not sure how they fit into Mafia-ese, if they can. Hence, I am not sure my reasons would be appreciated. Once I can revise my idea into mafia-ese, it will be made known.
At a minimum, my idea is half-baked.
If you will allow me to continue the parlance, the idea is still cooking. I could take it out now, and it will remain half-baked for eternity.
I could wait till when my recipe tells me to take it out, and my odds will be better for having a full baked idea.
Put your opinions out there so that you can be judged against them and your actions.Put your opinions out there so that you can be judged against them and your actions.
I do not understand, why ANYONE would want to do this.
At once, I want to ask for clarification here.
I assume, you mean to get at something on the order of
“If you are town, you have nothing to worry about, by doing this”
But, that underestimates what Scum WILL do with the information.
Should I be so transparent, as to post my entire Mafia game flow chart right here and now? [Is such a thing even possible?]
Should I reduce myself down to an Algorithm, and at that point stop PLAYING this game?
If I tell you everything, then I can not catch scum. Further, they will know to look for my traps, and similar traps, and in general, stay on a heightened sense of alert.
And how do you think anyone ever gets a majority vote in the first place? Someone has to cast the first vote.
If you’re worried about the Scum choosing their night kill target based on your information, don’t worry about it. They already know who they all are, so they can’t really make a “wrong” choice for their night-kill, the way we can. They’ll try to hit power roles if they can, so all else being equal, you’d prefer not to make it known that you’re a power role, but that’s moot for you, now, since your role is already known.
On the other hand, you may be worried that if the Scum know what tells you recognized, that they’ll stop using those tells. This is also not something to worry about. A scum tell is somebody doing something that hurts Town, so the scum avoiding tells means that they’re forced to help Town (in public, at least). And forcing the Scum to help Town is a good thing.
Meanwhile, it’s important to explain reasons for votes, for two reasons. First of all, if a player votes without explaining why, other players might think that the real reason is because the voter is scum. This isn’t applicable to you right now, since you’re a confirmed Mason, but it’s something to keep in mind for future games you play. Secondly, though, and this does apply to you, if you’re voting for someone you probably want other players to vote for that person, too. So you should give us reasons to vote that way. Talk us into it.
Bolding is mine.
This would be a case where the exception proves the rule.
NETA :
That is to say : I do not want other people to vote for Mahaloth.
Keep in mind what lies at the heart of Mafia philosophy.
Players win when their side wins, regardless of whether they are alive or not. To that end, all players, even Scum, should be acting altruistically. Keeping yourself alive is useful to your team, but at the end of the day, it is the flow of information which decides the outcome.
The Town is looking to maximise information. The Scum are looking to impede this. Whoever is successful, wins.
Having said that, I myself have been in positions where I had theories which I could not reveal, at the time. In my case it depended on the alignment of a particular player who was still alive - this was a previous game, so I wont go into details. But if you have an idea you do not wish to share, then don’t, that’s fine. But beware of two factors:
Whether the risk is worth it is up to you, of course. Just understand that declaring you have a theory makes you a target - it’s the sort of thing best kept to yourself, usually.
i am always available. just pm me. but not until the game is over, please.
and now i finally get what mah was trying to say. still reads funky to me, however.
Okay, I had a VERY busy week (spent Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday getting my motorcycle licensce and I’m leaving for a weekend vacation in a about an hour where I may or my not have WiFi access). That being said, I’m on the fence about Peeker at the moment. But Paul said he was ensinned during the night and as we get closer to the end of the game and are losing 2 (most likely) town each Day/Night, we can’t have extra sinners running around.
Vote PaulWhoIsAGhost/BillMC
If I do have WiFi access, I’ll review my vote, but if I don’t I wanted to make sure to get it in before day end.
and i know i really shouldn’t. but at times you just have to be true to your nature.
1,000,000 x 0 = 0.
just kidding but i can’t help myself. and cripes, do i crack myself up or what?
oh, and we can certainly talk (i would appreciate the chance)
but kind of building on my stumbling logic.
1,000 x 0 = 0.
0 + 0 = 0.
kind of a zero sum game.
Funny, most of the other players are still locked up with us Peeker. Do they keep playing, or sub out?
Seems more like a Prisoners Dilemma to me.
And or
Yeah, you sure know your Zeros, don’t you? Could it be because you are one?
was just doing a re-read. apparently in the whole catch up mode i missed a section of pages so this is new to me.
my first game was like a line of meth mixed with a hell of a drunk. i loved it and sucked so bad that i learned to chill a bit.
i think i made three or more votes within the first thirty minutes.
got my ass voted a couple of times and settled down.
what pulled me into the game was a little more inner directed. i really thought a lot of the folks in this community and there combined intelligence. there were a bunch (story and santo particularily) that seemed like it would be fun to have a beer or non filtered cigarette if i met them in person. and i leave a whole bunch of others of because they were about ten percent and there are probably fifty or so that make up the other ninety percent.
regarding “restraint”. you just have to play and find your place. you get a rep and if it’s real then people deal. for me i was intitially judged to be obtuse and random. now folks know that is just my style and is not nearly as obtuse or random as initially perceived. but ultimately you have to be yourself.
sorry, gotta go. the xxx cable video rental time runs out in about thirty minutes and i’d like to get one more masturbation session in.
Peeker, I am going to assume that we both have a mutual friend in NAF. I told him point blank, right before we were going into Haggle, that I liked the cut of his jib.
[I had stated my first move that I WANTED to make in haggle, and he was there with me, tit for tat.]
I know we come off at odds with each other.
Very seriously:
**
FRANKLY**, I think it is because we are too much alike.
