The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

Expect a push for eating worms and insects. All that protein, at a “very very affordable” price!!1!!!

Wait wasn‘t THAT what all the woke snowflakes were going to force us to do after eliminating cattle ranching under the pretext of the (pick: climate/cholesterol/mad-cow/PETA) hoax?

Yes. But MAGA are perfectly capable of believing that ‘eating worms and insects’ is BOTH a Plot by Lefties and What Dear Leader Wants.

Kennedy will soon be going full N. Korea and getting citizens to eat boiled grass.

When there is no grass to be found, we’ll eat sand.

And we’ll like it!

My money is on dryer lint.

Better availability.

More filling.

The immortal line-reading of Mr. Sidney Dawson!

But: RFK Jr. has no conscience of any kind. If it keeps him in power he’ll spout any and all absurdities about how hungry Americans can deal with their hunger…eating sand not excepted.

I don’t think it’s about power for him - I think he’s a genuine fanatic.

Not that fanatics have any more of a conscience, of course.

And he happens to be perfect for the MAGAs to have in that post because as a true fanatic he is committed to tear down the whole establishment just because it is the establishment.

Very late response, but here in the “shithole countries” - Zimbabwe and South Africa, birth control tablets are OTC, because, why not? The only time to see an actual doctor is perhaps to discuss side affects, and possibly to get a recommendation on a different brand.

I’m male, and I have simply walked into a pharmacy and asked for my girlfriend’s preferred brand. They are subsidized, so very cheap. Or she (or I) could go to a reproductive health clinic and get them free.

We get free condoms… everywhere, even in jail.

The more I learn about the USA, the more it is appalling to me.

Remember: The American Revolution was started by a bunch of Rich White Men who didn’t want to pay taxes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Many of whom held slaves. “All men are created equal”, but some can own others and women don’t even rate a mention.

As an American who moved away, I will echo this, except that I wonder why I had to leave to learn about my own country, and I’m equally appalled with myself for having failed to do the proper due diligence while I was there.

Which is why I once asked, and was not convinced by the answers, “Did we really have a Revolution or did we just have a War of Independence but called it a revolution because we ended with a republic?”

It’s not really that exceptional for countries to promote an officialized, glossed-over version of their own history and geography, believing the point should be to inculcate unconditional loyalty. But in the US scenario it does at times look like it’s suspicious of anyone bothering with anything beyond the fourth-grade version.

Occasional target of anti-woke politicians hot topic of discussion in the UK

All your base are belong to Trump

It makes more sense if you remember that the US colonies began as a business venture. The Virginia Company sold shares to investors and then hired a bunch of schmucks, err, colonists, to do the hard and dangerous work of founding settlements in unknown lands. “Freedom” and “religious freedom” was the lure that got them there (as it so often is). It has ALWAYS been about money over people. We have had some flashes of brilliance or benevolence here and there but the ultimate reverence for cash has been with us from the beginning and is part of the foundation of our society.

The one thing we could take a lot of pride in was our science and medicine - we led the world there. Not in making sure the average Joe could enjoy the fruits of that science and medicine without bankruptcy, no, but we were among the best in history in those fields. And now we have morons that the Dark Ages would be ashamed of tearing it all down just because. I hate RFK Jr as much or more than Trump, to be honest.

Sorry, don’t know if this has already been discussed. But I just saw an online pop-up saying “Pete Hegseth says war could last 8 weeks”.

I figured this must be a parody site. But I checked and their other stuff didn’t seem like parodies. So I checked further and found out this was real.

Here’s his actual quote: “You can say four weeks, but it could be six, it could be eight, it could be three.” cite

Eight weeks? At most?

For a little perspective, the war in Iraq lasted eight years. The war in Afghanistan lasted twenty years.

I think Hegseth would have been more honest if he had said eight weeks was the maximum amount of time they figured they could hold Trump’s attention on the war.
