If there’s an order somewhere that includes “no quarter”, then he’s a war criminal, period. If there’s just Xits and Faux news soundbites, he’s pressing real hard, but might not be quite there. Yet. But he’s sure headed that way fast.
I doubt he put in writing, he very courageous in front of the cameras, not so much when there can be actual consequences. On the other hand he is very stupid so we cannot discard it totally.
This is a fact that’s being glossed over by the media, which consistently take the tone ‘Trump’s people have fired all the anti-terrorism people at FBI, CIA, etc.----and isn’t that irresponsible of them.’
Irresponsible they may be, but getting rid of all the measures we used to take to prevent terror attacks is as deliberate as deliberate can be. But MSNOW, the NYT, CNN, etc. etc. can NOT be made to understand that.
If there are no terror attacks then Donald cannot declare an Emergency, with Emergency Powers. (Claiming ‘voting fraud’ obviously will not suffice; he needs dead Americans.)
If there are no Emergency Powers then Democrats are all too likely to take over the House and likely the Senate, too. And then Petey-boy and the rest will join Donald in being impeached (or worse, since SCOTUS has failed to protect everyone except Donald from vulnerability to indictment).
“I need emergency powers to stop voting fraud by the evil immigrant hordes”, done. Trump has only ever been impeded by the willingness of people to stop or disobey him, not any rules, laws or excuses. Or logic, for that matter.
I don’t doubt that Donald would want to try this.
But I think the others dependent on this working to stay out of jail, will insist on Terror Attacks. There just aren’t enough Americans who will buy the ‘immigrant hordes’ thing.
I guess we’ll know in a few months which of us is nearer to being correct. But my money is on the Trump Regime imperative to cut all terror-attack-prevention measures (as they pretty much have done).
Or, they’ll go full False-Flag. And being complete morons, they’ll probably fuck it up.
Not that anyone using RW propaganda as their news source will be any the wiser to any fuckups doing the false flag.

I do not follow. It is not obvious to me how terror attacks make it easier or harder to cheat at elections.

I think the working assumption is simply that to get away with cancelling or otherwise interfering with the Nov '26 elections, trump’s gonna need something more substantial, and more believable by the non-trumpies, than a mere fake declaration of some commercial emergency like he’s used for his ignorant tariffs and a bunch of other EOs. US immigration law and practice might be an utter shambles, but it isn’t legally an emergency. Despite his bellowing.
He really needs a 9/11 moment where even the trump haters rally round the government. Otherwise his putsch will fail / be stopped.
This seems correct to me. The “brain” trust of the Trumpites will believe that success requires that Americans feel genuine physical fear—such as would result from massive and/or widespread bombings (for example). The result would be a majority who would agree that Emergency Measures are required to “keep us safe.”
A problem with this kind of project is that millions of Americans already believe that the Trumpites would carry out false flag attacks that would kill people—partly because the Trumpites have already proven their appetite for brutality, and partly because we know they will be vulnerable to prosecution, should non-fascist politicians gain the power to hold them accountable. We know how highly-motivated they will be to stop that from happening.
It’s the “Emergency Powers.” Elections, traditionally administered and overseen by state and local governments, will now be (at least) “overseen” by Trump’s people. ‘Because that’s the only way to keep Americans safe’ etc., etc. The vote totals will be announced by Trump’s people. And we will be expected to simply accept what we are told.
That’s right. If 60% of Americans doubt the veracity of the Trumpites, 40% will NOT doubt—either because they pay no attention to the news, or because they pay attention only to news sources that will lie to them.
That’s a good bet. The question is, will their fuck-ups be blatant enough to get millions of us to march on Washington? (It might take such unaccustomed activism to get us out of this.)
The ironic part was he had that in 2020 with Covid. All he had to do was act Presidential for a couple months, let the machinery already in place take care of it while he played the omniscient father figure, he’d have had that election all sewn up.
That he couldn’t do even that should be all one needs to know.

The problem is that he’s probably right. The rest of the USA government will simply lie down & let him.
Now will the outcome of his Cuba war be as he wants? Of course not; the enemy gets a vote. Just as we, but not he, are seeing in Iran.
Iran has 8.5 times the population of Cuba.
And with Cuba, as Trump alludes (“I mean, whether I free it”), he has the option of settling for superficial change A LA Venezuela. Iran is more all or nothing.
