Been a while for that one, no? Meaning that Trump tried that several times, got some headlines but little in the way of results, and has now moved on to other things.
Like hell he has. He’s instituted new actions against Harvard just a few days ago
I stand corrected. These suits aren’t getting the media attention they used to get. Coverage, yes, but not front-page anymore.
One thing that’s struck me about the photos I see of unmasked ICE patrolling airports: They all look so frikkin young. Baby-faced, even, like barely out of their teens. Is that deliberate, to make them seem less threatening to the general public?
I’m pretty sure not. I think it’s just who they can get. They’re struggling to fill the ranks, and beggars can’t be choosers.
I’m more surprised that he didn’t insist that ICE can mask up, even at airports.
More likely, jobless youths whose bodies are coursing with testosterone who really, really enjoy being in a “tough guy” role with very few if any legal constraints. As was overheard in the shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis, to these immature punks it’s like a real-life video game.
Even before Trump’s crackdown, ICE did not have the best reputation for hiring the most competent agents. They’re scraping the bottom of the barrel these days and not all that concerned about hiring qualified people. No shade at the young, you can be young and competent, but I wouldn’t expect most ICE agents hired in the last 6 months to be competent law enforcement officers.
I’ve answered this before (I’m a poll worker in Wisconsin). It’s simple: I call the police, they come and arrest the ICEholes and drag them away, at gunpoint if necessary.
We have always been trained for this sort of attempted interference.
It’ll be real interesting to see the local police and the Federal DHS agents aiming their guns at each other while each side claims pre-emption over the other’s official business.
While the would-be voters and pollworkers scatter to the hills.
Given some warning, the police can outnumber the ICE anywhere, if not necessarily everywhere. Given no warning, the ICE will be able to appear in one spot in numbers greater than the police can quickly muster.
In the Before Times, sure. But unfortunately we are in a shit zone in time, and can’t be certain that the police interaction would go that way. Thanks to Republicans.
Trump’s signature to appear on US currency, Treasury says, ending 165-year tradition
Voters who consider strong presidential power a plus will get a good feeling from this.
But if there is an inflation bump, we wil get to say that Trump money is worth less and less.
Yeah. It seems not-impossible, too, that some police departments would slow-walk responses to poll-workers calling to complain about ICE presence, given that some police departments are fairly sympathetic to ICE and MAGA.
“Voter intimidation” will occur no matter how legal or illegal it may happen to be. Many in the Regime are highly motivated to make that happen, given how vulnerable they are to being held legally accountable for their official actions.
Police and military both are highly normative conformist organizations. BTDT, but my t-shirts have all faded, gotten holey, & been pitched.
If WAG 53% of a unit are MAGA, WAG 98% of them will behave that way when forced by circumstances to choose.
And the current criminal regime knows that.
Horror?
Yes, because it is rule by decree.
This is why the prospect of Democratic control over the House and Senate next January leaves me a bit cold. Trump just ignores congressional action, or inaction, he dislikes.
When the Treasury has no money to pay people, it has no money to pay people. Congress still drives that.
I hope.
Doesn’t Treasury print the money?
Will the purchasers names see the light of day? This is obvious insider information!
Agree. I said this upthread. I don’t see it. How would they realistically attempt to justify it? If we are indeed at a point where armed government thugs can harass people and/ or prevent them from voting, without any cause - even a fake one- I’d say we’re at the end of the road.
Out of curiosity, will anyone here be intimidated if they see ICEholes hanging around their voting center? I mean, do you think they’ll have guns drawn, or pull people out of line? I’m asking sincerely. Maybe there’s a way volunteers can get matched up with folks within their community that are fearful and accompany them. I think I’ll bring it up at the next Party meeting.
It’s beyond obvious insider trading. The SEC will have records in black and white.
And no, nobody will face any penalty whatsoever for this blatantly illegal act.
Following up on Bessent’s promise to put Trump’s signature on currency, I just did a bit of my own research and think there is a case that U.S. money will stop being legal tender – the original 1861 law establishing demand notes says that the Secretary of the Treasury and the Register of the Treasury are the signatures. They switched from the Register to the seemingly comparable Treasurer of the United States in 1923.
Here’s the Treasury.gov press release:
So the way I read it, Trump will not be a third signature, but will replace the Treasurer. I guess SCOTUS would find a way to say this is legal.
WARNING: If you cross out Trump’s name, on your dollar bills, that’s defacing currency. You could go to jail, and I doubt SCOTUS will block that:
