Because the ignorant bastards running our government would like to prohibit vaccination for ideological / ignorant reasons.
If they can’t quite get away with outright prohibition, at least they can defund research, refuse to certify any new vaxes, withdraw the blanket liability shield hoping to enmire the vax manufacturers in endless frivolous lawsuits until they quit making vaccines, and now on top of already having done all the above, they’re now trying to make vaccination as difficult as possible for the ever-shrinking fraction of Americans who can still think and therefore want to live in a vaccinated world.
Ignorance coupled to malice is a force that runs a lot of the world. You don’t run your life that way, and neither do I. But vast tracts of the world are ruled by people who do operate that way. We’re fast becoming a member of that dismal club.
He does (or, at least, historically did) have a certain cunning, and a certain strength of personality. As many business failures and business bankruptcies as he had, he still always managed to find people, companies, and banks, which were happy, even eager, to work with him.
It also appears that he managed to structure his businesses in such a way that he was always able to walk away from the business failures without him, personally, holding the bag.
All of that is not to say that he is particularly intelligent, and does not explain his toxic level of Dunning-Krueger, in which he has convinced himself that he is a frickin’ super-genius, is the world’s greatest polyglot, and can, in mere minutes, figure out solutions to problems which have bedeviled actual experts for decades.
Ignorance of course. But I think fear has a great deal to do with it. They are too afraid to look at facts that they can’t possibly understand. THEY don’t understand it, so it must be bad.
True, and others have critiqued this idea of mine from different directions. I do think that the unpleasantness of taking a toddler to get shots is underrated as a motivator, though of course there are other factors, all of which the Trump administration is accelerating (particularly with regard to science education and the respect for scientific consensus).
Gods, we’ve got such a moron for president.
Meanwhile, Trump has given us an economic war against… Canada!? And a deadly shooting and explosions war against Iran, and this complete moron wants snipers on an imaginary arch.
A military justification will reduce the risk of SCOTUS stopping arch construction. Maybe I just sanewashed Trump, but I suspect this was a smart move on his part (once you get past whether it is smart to change a democracy into a dictatorship).
You know, I get the whole “successfully lying to and deceiving your opponents or the public in general” or “double dog daring the law to actually function” things demonstrate a certain kind of cunning when you’re likely to get away with it.
I think the stumble most of us come across is the ethical/moral judgement first. Following an ethical code and adhering to first principles also requires intelligence and when that recognizable code is violated we have trouble ascribing that to intellect as is generally recognized here on the board specifically.
Intelligence and ethical codes can be related. But can also be two separate and distinct things.
Easiest delusion keeping Hero the Hero: his wife took a Tylenol during pregnancy. It’s HER fault the kid got sick!
Slightly more elaborate delusion keeping Hero the Hero: Joe Biden took money from Big Bacteria ensuring that some until-now-not-identified source is what got your kid sick (unto death). Maybe it was the poster paints that Libruls use for their Godless Protest Signs. Or anything else, really.
(In short: I think your theory about blame-shifting to excuse a disinclination to take the kid to get vaccinated, makes perfect sense.)
For fortune-amassing reasons, too, in many cases (I would guess). After all, if you have millions of kids and adults getting very, very sick, they are going to be open to Miracle Cures. Just corner the market on some rare plant, use the power of the government to declare it the cure, and sit back watching the billions flow in.
Chaos brings opportunity, as sociopaths like to remind us.
Even vaccines are world wide products. There are no such vaccines made. Once the special US vaccines are made, they have to be tested. That will take the rest of Trump’s term. No measurements of reduced atutism, as RFK Jr demands, will ever be made as the vaccines will never be sold. We will have normal vaccines now to 2029.
On this front, there were recent stories that a big part of his falling out with the architect he hired for The Ballroom was that Trump’s preferred designs violated the fire codes. Soooo…
