The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

On the night of the last election, my sister told me things would be worse if Harris had won. One of these days I’d like to revisit the topic and see if she still stands by that answer. I suspect the answer is yes.

I started this thread before the inauguration with a list of horrors that I thought might happen. I could never have imagined that the actual reality would be 100 times worse as the Orange One rampages literally completely out of control, with the Supreme Court doing virtually nothing to constrain him and Congress doing nothing at all.

I’d be fascinated by a glimpse into the delusional bizarro world in which Harris could be perceived as “worse”.

Sherrerd said it perfectly a few posts up:

For such people, a worse world is one in which this fails to happen.

Trump in ‘emergency’ mode as leaks reveal scramble to fix dire issue

Trump and his coven gather around to scheme their way out of a declining economy a mere month before midterms. Higher diesel costs increase the cost of nearly everything and is a serious drag on the economy. Is it too late at this point to do anything to alter the direction the voters are headed in that amount of time?

Yes.

This post is on topic as a horror for any lurking Republicans

It won’t stop them from trying. Yesterday Trump announced a new deal for South Korea investing $54 billion into exporting natural gas from Alaska, two days after announcing a new massive steel mill in Iowa. I’m sure it’s only a coincidence that these are two states with closely contested Senate races.

Forget Trump for a moment. Does it not or ever occur to any of these people that their entire worldview (if even earnestly, rather than cynically or performatively, held) is simlply and fundamentally objectively incorrect? That it’s not “matters about which reasonable people can disagree”? That they wake up in the morning wrong, that they go to bed at night wrong, and that all their endeavors, efforts, hopes and desires serve nothing but pure wrong?

Are these people going to be interviewed thirty years hence, in their eighth and ninth decades of life, and present to the world that they have been completely unchanged from the experience of serving in this administration and also having the experience of living before, through, and after these times? What the heck would it take to elicit contrition – even guarded, conditional contrition – from these types?

Donald must be hoping that no one from Alaska or Iowa talks to anyone from Wisconsin. His 2017 promise of a shiny new Foxconn plant there, with 13,000 jobs, materialized in the same way the Alaska and Iowa deals will: not at all.

I voted today. Yes, it is too late.

Donald was also probably hoping that nobody talked to South Korea. There’s no deal actually in place.

Nothing at all. Their only regret will be (hopefully) that their grand plan did not work.

Lol, South Korea says “Wut?” The Iowa steel mill deal is a mirage, too, in all likelihood.

Reminds me of signs saying “Keep your government hands off my Medicare”. Or the people saying “I have ACA insurance, not Obamacare.”

You can’t spell Obamacare without ACA!

Donny Dipshit is doubling down. From a recent “truth”:

Sure Donny, sure.

I don’t like to have anything to do with the prediction markets, but would not be surprised if the betting is against either the Alaska or Iowa promises materializing in any real way.

Where’s a traffic cop when you need one?

Trump’s motorcade neared 100 mph en route to Oklahoma after helicopter, airplane ruled out

Where’s a catastrophic tire and suspension failure when you need one?

I’m betting he doesn’t wear a seatbelt, and would be tossed around a bit in a rollover.

He did lean over the seat and try to wrestle the wheel on The Beast when he was being whisked away from the J6 crowd.

It’s faith based politics, which dominates the Right. Things are true because they believe it to be true. As early as 2004 in the Bush Administration they were talking about the “reality based community” as an insult.

And now? Well, recall how people literally went to their death denying COVID. Which answers what it would take to change their minds: not even the threat of death is enough.
