How long before he backs out of this one and declares victory? I give it .78 Scaramuccis.
At this point just let them burn it all down. I’m exhausted.
At this point, I think the best response to chaos is malicious compliance. Analyze which policies will hurt red states and MAGA voters the most, and get out of the way. Selectively let him burn it down. Only pain will turn this stampede of morons and cowards.
One of our member businesses raised their prices on steel tubing/piping due to COVID a few years ago. I’ll be on the lookout for a notification from them to their customers this year.
Trump ordered stopping of manufacturing of the penny. There is no horror in penny elimination. But it has always been thought that this requires legislation. Elimination of the half cent was by legislation.
Trump said he would only be a dictator on day one. That’s obviously forgotten.
It will be interesting to see how this goes. It annoys the f*@k out of me this dumbass will get credit for this if it sticks, since it is a good idea. Today it costs .0272 cents to manufacture one of these useless things. It will save close to $90 million annually which isn’t much given the budget and deficit. But it is long overdue.
The main reason it hasn’t happened has been because a group called Common Cents for America has been one of the most aggressive groups lobbying Congress on this issue. They are largely funded by the zinc industry. Copper coated zinc slugs are what make up 95% of the post 1982 penny.
If I remember correctly, the company that sells zinc slugs to the mint is based in a red state, so leopards eating faces and such.
So my guesses on this one are;
A) He was told they wouldn’t be able to put his face on them
B) He wants to punish Philadelphia because the Eagles won the Super Bowl and was told he can’t put a tariff on them, so he’s going after the US Mint instead
C) Obama tweeted something about pennies in 2013 that he’s still Big Mad about
D) Elon told him to replace all US currency with krugerrands
Moderating:
Let’s try to post in this thread with a modicum of sincere content. You’re not in the Pit, and this post is much more appropriate for there. Not here. Thanks.
I actually needed eight pennies a couple of weeks ago. I forgot to buy washers when I was picking up things from the hardware store, so I made washers out of pennies. They were a lot cheaper than going back to the hardware store and buying actual washers.
Of course, it’s been. We all knew it was a lie when he said it. If he didn’t want to be Dictator for Life, he wouldn’t have ordered his followers to attack the United States.

The source of this information writes about “unintended consequences”. I wonder whether they really are that stupid or maybe the consequences are not unintended at all.
.0272 cents isn’t much money. At that price, it would cost me one cent to make about 37 pennies.
According to this source (and others), it actually costs about 3 cents to make a penny.
I’m wondering whether you meant to say 0.0272 dollars? You wouldn’t be the first person to confuse dollars, cents, and decimal points:
Now I want to write an essay trashing “progressives” and lauding mediocre white men, that uses all those terms, just to see Trump et al. ban a pro-MAGA essay.
Yep, I fucked it up. It should have been .0272 dollars. That illustrates why it is stupid to continue making this coin.
Does it though? I don’t think the value of a penny is simply its face value; rather, it’s the utility it provides by facilitating many, many transactions before it gets lost or worn out. There may be good reasons to eliminate the penny, but I’m not sure “it costs more than a penny to make a penny” is a good argument all by itself.
Looking further, I see the positions are already staked out on this issue:
The main reason the penny continues to be made is because one of the most aggressive lobbying groups in DC is funded by the zinc industry. They make the slugs that are used nowadays.
Another reason is because most people toss any pennys they get into a change jar at home and never use them. So the Mint has to make more every year. If you want to learn more then read this article. It is a free gift link and very clearly explains the issue.
As has been mentioned, other countries have eliminated their equivalent coin and none of the problems posters here have brought up have materialized.
Getting rid of the penny should happen. DJT may not be able to do this by Presidential order but it should be done.
Yep. Canada ditched out penny several years ago,and I’ve literally never heard anyone lamenting its loss.
Electronic payments are still charged to the penny, only cash transactions get rounded up or down. And since COVID, tap to pay has become much more prevalent, so most people never even notice pennies, or the lack thereof.
Trump: cruelty is the point
Trump has only revenge and cruelty to offer. It will entertain his voters in the “owning libs” sense. Black Lives Matter only led to the right rejecting DEI altogether. This is what we get for all four years of Trump. If he lasts that long. I think his revenge campaign lasts about a year. Then golfing, I hope.
So, here’s a clever back door from the evil cabal.
If you aren’t able to repeal the Nineteenth Amendment and thereby cancel the right of women to vote…
… you can get a long way to achieving the same goal by passing the SAVE Act!
https://www.americanprogress.org/article/the-save-act-would-disenfranchise-millions-of-citizens/
The short version is that this would require citizenship to be proven either by birth certificate or by passport. Fewer than half of Americans have a passport, and about 80% of American women change their name on marriage, which means the birth certificate doesn’t match their current legal name. Boom, a huge number of women can no longer vote.
Clever, huh?
And the SAVE Act has already passed the House.
