Will the youth be wearing the adult diapers that some Trump supporters wore at rallys. To look cool.
POTUS is making it sexy to be Republican again
Absolutely understandable. In his book, In the Garden of Beasts, Erik Larson recounts the experiences of William Dodd as US ambassador to Nazi Germany in the 1930s. His daughter Martha, fascinated by the pomp and pageantry of Nazi Germany, carried on an affair with Rudolf Diels, then head of the Gestapo. As the two “wild & crazy” Festrunk brothers used to say on SNL, “sexy-times”!
From the NATO conference today. Values are important but you can’t shoot values, you can’t shoot flags and you can’t shoot strong speeches.
I beg to differ!
Actually, I’m thinking more about the example of the Tesla CyberTruck’s proven tendency to explode under impact, the topic of another thread. Apparently (although the sample size is small), the Tesla is more likely to cause damage than the legendary Pinto.
But what are the chances that an armored vehicle would be subject to impacts?
Me too.
What is going on right now reminds me of a song by Peggy Seger - Song of Choice.
Peggy Seeger, 'Song of Choice' - War Poetry — LiveJournal Released in 1973. Its about the growth of fascism. Prescient, indeed.
Final stanza:
Close your eyes, stop your ears
Close your mouth, they’re never there
And if it happens here, they’ll never come for you
Because they’ll know you really didn’t care
I’m seventy. My life goal now is to live until Trump and his cohorts, especially Musk, are gotten rid of.
There is an article in “Foreign Affairs” entitled “The Path to American Authoritarianism” (The Path to American Authoritarianism), which is an interesting read. Hard to say if it was overall depressing or hopeful to me…At least they think institutions will hold enough to keep us in the realm of what they call “competitive authoritarianism” rather than a complete fascist or single-party dictatorship. On the other hand, just the fact that this seems like something to take as a bit of comfort shows how far my expectations have fallen in the past several months.
The more people rely on others doing the job (and Americans are infamous for doing just this), the less chance there is of Trump and his ilk ever leaving.
Allegedly said by Napoleon, later re-quoted by Norwegian terrorist and mass murderer Anders Breivik, then re-quoted again by the Orange Felon. While his VP is in Germany praising Nazis.
Maybe he thinks being compared to Napoleon will look better than being compared to Hitler.
They named a brandy after Napoleon, they made a herring out of Bismarck, and Trump is going to end up as a piece of cheese!
Frankly, I’d rather he was toast.
There is, of course the unspoken caveat about “who fails to save his country” which I feel trump should be more closely considering.
(This is not a gift link, sorry. I only have two left this month and the month is young.
Maybe someone else has a gift link? It’s a really long article. Here are a few quotes:)
Many critical issues were left uncertain — including the fate of Ukraine — at the end of Europe’s first encounter with an angry and impatient Trump administration. But one thing was clear: An epochal breach appears to be opening in the Western alliance.
After three years of war that forged a new unity within NATO, the Trump administration has made clear it is planning to focus its attention elsewhere: in Asia, Latin America, the Arctic and anywhere President Trump believes the United States can obtain critical mineral rights.

Still, President Emmanuel Macron of France has asked “the main European countries” to come to Paris on Monday to discuss the war in Ukraine and European security, Jean-Noël Barrot, the foreign minister, said on Sunday in an interview on France Inter radio.
The Élysée Palace said on Sunday in a statement that the meeting would be informal and involve the heads of government from Germany, Britain, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark. The presidents of the European Council and the European Commission, as well as the NATO chief, would also attend.

He [Norbert Röttgen, a member of Germany’s Parliament for the Christian Democratic Union] pointed in particular to Mr. Vance’s speech on Friday. There was no talk of common bonds, or a plan for Ukraine, or the goals of a peace negotiation. Instead, Mr. Vance delivered a blistering attack on European democracy for restricting the power of the far right. Mr. Vance then met with the leader of the far-right German political party that Elon Musk has backed and which is running second in the opinion polls.
“The spirit of the Vance speech was hostility,” Mr. Röttgen said.

Stupid, arrogant bullies, the lot of them, and they’re going to throw the whole world into a series of escalating crises at this rate. All the way to nukes flying? I’m trying not to believe that, but…
Gee, I wonder who has Trump’s ear and has a business that’s dependent on rare earths in order to keep its valuation illusively high.
I got you @ThelmaLou!
