Thanks to my newly-invented Future-seeing camera™ I have a photo of the parade.
Yet another bit of horror to add:
Trump’s deep cuts to health research put lab animals at risk, scientists say
The administration has sought to slash federal health agencies and money for research grants.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/04/11/hhs-research-cuts-lab-animals/
…
In recent weeks, the administration has moved to slash billions of dollars in university research funding and ax thousands of employees at federal health agencies. Those changes have created an uncertain future for untold numbers of lab animals that are costly to obtain, sometimes genetically customized for specific types of studies and dependent on trained staff to look after them humanely.
“My great fear is that millions of animals are going to be sacrificed because they can’t be cared for,” said Paul Locke, a professor at Johns Hopkins University’s Bloomberg School of Public Health with experience in laboratory animal law.
…
There is no official tally of how many animals are being bred for research or actively involved in projects. The number could total more than 100 million and includes cats, dogs, fish, flies, rodents and monkeys, said Arthur Caplan, a bioethics professor at New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine who helped develop modern protocols for lab-animal care and use.
Swift changes to facilities’ funding, Caplan said, would create the potential “for unprecedented human and animal suffering.”
…
My bold.
Human life, animal life, the life of the planet… so what?
I expect a rather low cost (ie, already paid for) Supplemental Nutrition Plan to be proposed by this administration soon – after RFK, Jr., gets his pick of potential trophy heads, that is.
Then just dump the bodies in our national parks, I guess? Central Park, too.
At one point I’d have thought that the deliberate killing of innocent animals would have bothered all but the most hunteriffic of Trump fans—but after the reception Kristi Noem got from Congress (Confirmed!!!) that guess was proven wrong.
U.S. military removes commander of Greenland base after JD Vance visit
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/04/11/greenland-base-colonel-removed-vance/
The U.S. military removed the commander of its base in Greenland hours after a news report that she had broken with the Trump administration’s stance toward the territory, with a Pentagon spokesman saying behavior out of step with President Donald Trump’s agenda “will not be tolerated” by the Defense Department.
Col. Susan Meyers, commander of Pituffik Space Base, was dismissed Thursday, the Space Force said in a statement. That afternoon, Military.com published a report detailing an email from Meyers to base personnel after Vice President JD Vance’s March 28 visit there in which she distanced the base from his remarks.
…
My bold.
Well, I guess that’s pretty dadgummed clear!
It’s paywalled. In what way did she disagree?
“I do not presume to understand current politics, but what I do know is the concerns of the U.S. administration discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday are not reflective of Pituffik Space Base,” Meyers wrote in the email, which was communicated to Military.com.
As soon as they realized she was a woman they were probably going to fire her anyway.
Well, dang! That was supposed two be a WaPo gift link.
Thanks.
This is a must read. It clearly lays out the racist philosophy behind the Trump agenda and identifies the advocates who have been writing about it for years, people who are little known and little discussed in the mainstream but who are rock stars in alt-right circles.
Trump himself is a moron, of course, who’s never read any of this stuff. He’s just the blunt instrument being deployed by the strategists in the shadows.
But the article makes clear that Stephen Miller, JD Vance, Peter Thiel, probably Musk, and several other key figures are working from this exact playbook.
I don’t think it can be overstated: you can’t understand the current agenda unless you’ve read this. I felt floodlights coming on in my brain as I got deeper and deeper into this essay. Chilling but absolutely essential.
As I said in another thread, it’s likely that the base personnel feel a kinship with Greenlanders among whom they live and work, whereas Trump and Vance want to attack and subjugate them. Trump will now be about as popular at the base as in the rest of Greenland, and as popular as he is in the federal civil service and, really, just about everywhere.
In fact, on CBC Radio this afternoon there was a discussion panel with a psychologist about the stress Trump is causing and its effects on physical and emotional health.
I saw a story online, from Raw Story, that Trump wants to take over public lands, specifically at the southern border, and station troops there, turning the area into a military area, so migrants crossing the border there could be charged with trespassing on a U.S. Military reservation. Anyone else see anything about this? Damn, I HATE Trump!
Headline: Trump Succeeds in Making Greenland Part of the U.S.
Subhead: Greenlanders Prepare to Use Their New 2nd Amendment Rights in Case of Trump Visit
There was an item similar to that on CTV news yesterday, as I recall. Being TV, it wasn’t a very long item, but it made the same point: everybody outside the U.S. is being stressed, mentally and emotionally, by Trump’s actions towards we and our countries.
I would venture that it’s even worse for the vast majority inside the US, too, comprising all those who voted for Harris, those who didn’t bother to vote, and indeed now many who voted for Trump and wish they hadn’t. And talk about stress – immigrants, even established legal residents, must be terrified of this rampaging madman.
Here. From the The Trump Administration: The Clusterfuck Continues thread.
The compendium of horrors is turning out to be worse that I could possibly have imagined in every possible way … here’s another:
Thanks, but Raw Story doesn’t like my ad-blocker. Can you give us the gist of the story?
The highlights, with my comments italicized in parentheses:
-
The “Deep State” is real, and it’s more than just George Soros and Bill Gates (I never knew Soros and Gates were part of any “state”)
-
The speech only became worse as he claimed, “‘every institution that’s created by human beings’ is inevitably captured by powerful interests.” (In this case he’s right. but tragically misguided about what those “powerful interests” are. Check out my recent post in the “Movies you’re recently watched” thread about “Dark Waters”. Thanks to the DuPont chemical company, virtually all living creatures on this planet have the cancerous “forever chemical” PFOA in their bodies.)
-
“Because of my family’s commitment to these issues, I spent 200 hours … with the r------d when I was in high school,” Kennedy said at one point. “So I was seeing people with intellectual disabilities all the time. I never saw anybody with autism.” (He apparently spent a lot of his time in high school with ‘retards’, and I assume he means that the idea of high-functioning autism, like Asperger’s, is a liberal fabrication)
Thank you!
