The current second Trump administration: a compendium of horrors

Saturday in my semi-suburban, semi-rural town north of Boston, it was cold and raining when I parked in front of a shop across from a town green abutting the main route through town.

The edge of the green was lined with at least two dozen folks holding home-made signs (“RESIST”, “FELON 45/47”, e.g.), drenched despite their raincoats and ponchos, happily waving to all the drivers who honked support as they went by. The woman hosting the pop-up book sale I went into told me they’re out there every weekend no matter what the weather is.

Cool - duly noted. My immediately cynical take was that I hope it’s 112 degrees that day and all those tanks totally sink their tracks into the streets, but then I realise the senseless damage to the streets, not to mention it probably being uncomfortable for all the anti-Trump protesters.

The Army has been celebrating its 250th anniversary over the past couple of months, and Donald - surely peeved at not getting a military parade in his first term (it was decided $90 milion was too much) - probably really stomped up and down for a parade this time since hey the Army gets to have celebrations why can’t I?

The problem is that these fascists just ignore it. “Yeah? So what.”

They have found that they can get away with pretty much anything.

For a moment I thought you were talking about Strong and was confused.

The answer on Pirro is: what’s the difference? She’s incoherent, belligerent, lying, evil and stupid at all times in public. Does it matter if it’s due to alcohol or natural malignity?

Called it:

I thought of your post when I pulled up that cold open. Nice work!

I was hoping the rain would hold off so I drove past the one we have weekly in Wakefield, but there was no one there. I did go before in the rain, but no one else showed up and there’s safety in numbers (we had some real weirdos the last sunny day counter-protesting us)

You should drive over to Ipswich. Given they have that much of a turnout in grisly weather, you should definitely be surrounded by fellow protesters.

This part is very symbolic:

In recent weeks, the U.S. Naval Academy removed some 400 books from its library, which include sociology books and texts written by Black female politicians.

The banned book titles include “The Second Coming of the KKK,” a landmark book on how the Klan rose to political power in the early 20th century; and “Memorializing the Holocaust: Gender, Genocide and Collective Memory,” which analyzes violence against women.

Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” is still available in the Naval Academy library.

The link is to the Internet Archive as someone realized “Monetizing MAGA” doesn’t sound good.

The Darker Design Behind Trump’s $400 Million Plane

Galloping corruption, completely out in the open. And apparently unstoppable, with the system of checks and balances in shambles.

The move is part of a broader reorganization of the field office, said one FBI official familiar with the plans, adding that the bureau would continue to pursue investigations into alleged corruption by public officials.

Suuuure they will.

Meanwhile, I still have to report every investment transaction over $1k, as well as an annual report including my WIFE’S income. The closest I’ve come to a bribe in 40 years employ is one time a contractor brought in a sack of green beans from her garden after we had discussed gardening. I was told I had to leave them in the break room to share with everyone. Not really sure what kinds of investments I COULD make that would constitute a conflict…

Now, now. If the public officials are Democrats, I’m sure there will be investigations.

New guidance from the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) on “child death investigation” advises officers to search for “drugs that can terminate pregnancy” in cases involving stillbirths. The NPCC, which sets strategic direction for policing across the country UK, also suggests a woman’s digital devices could be seized to help investigators “establish a woman’s knowledge and intention in relation to the pregnancy”. That could include checking a woman’s internet searches, messages to friends and family, and health apps, “such as menstrual cycle and fertility trackers”, it states.

Nevermind, UK not US (still awful, though).

Oh, it’ll happen here, too.

If it isn’t already happening.

Frost: Tonight the people stealing are not folks with tattoos and hoodies but people wearing suits and ties and congressional pins sitting in the capitol now, not in some alley wrapped in darkness but the United States congress wrapped in the flag. It is disgusting and we will never forget this.

Trump will just shove his nuggets of nonsense into anyone’s face, and you’d better go along with it because he’s the biggest boy and will pout at you otherwise.
